Hotel Gibbs Downtown Riverwalk

Both times I've stayed at this little downtown San Antonio gem have been great. It's an older boutique hotel tucked behind construction, but the rooms are clean and have what you need. The queen room is small; the king rooms are fairly spacious, and either is a good deal. They offer a decent free breakfast and tickets for a free wine tasting. The staff are great, and it's definitely worth trying.

We arrived very late, and Jennie greeted us and made sure we had everything we needed. Sarah and the general manager, David, I think, were also helpful and friendly throughout the visit. The location is perfect, and the complimentary breakfast was really high quality. We'd come back.

The location in San Antonio is great, and the building is beautiful, but the stay disappointed me. The room was comfortable, yet housekeeping barely showed up. Over three days, they changed only the bath towels, never made the bed, and didn't clean properly. There weren't any glasses when we arrived; the ones they brought were disposable paper cups. We didn't even get a complimentary bottle of water. The elevators were slow and constantly in use by staff, so waits were long. On our last night, we found a cockroach over two inches long in the room. For the price, the hotel feels overrated and poorly supervised. Management needs to improve seriously.

The staff were really helpful and nice, and I liked the historic building, wood floors, and big windows. The gym was nice, though I wished it had a water fountain. They don't provide bottled water in the room, and the only fountain is in the breakfast buffet and bar area. During the winter storm, my room was freezing and the heater took a while to warm it up.
