OYO Hotel San Antonio Lackland Air Force Base West

The location is excellent for getting to the base, and one manager was kind and helpful. The other was difficult to understand and got irritated when I asked him to repeat himself. It’s sad to see the place in such bad shape, and I hope they can turn it around. We had to change rooms three times because of hot water problems. The first room had three roaches on the floor and more dead ones stuck to tape on the ceiling tiles, plus a strong marijuana smell. The second had the same issues except for the smell. In the last room, the bathroom sink had no warm water, the shower had only enough warm water for a quick wash, and there were roaches on the ceiling tape. The pool was dirty and poorly maintained. The hot tub was empty and full of garbage, and there was a broken glass table and chairs in the pool area. This motel needs a lot of work. I can’t believe it’s still operating.

The only real advantage is being near Lackland Air Force base, about a 20-minute walk to the ceremony. Otherwise, staying at this OYO was a horrible experience. The place is badly run down, the TV didn’t work, and there were bugs in the room that you wouldn’t want to bring home. The microwave was rusty inside, the fridge was wet, and they made the bed once. There was a common breakfast room, but I wouldn’t eat there. Don’t stay here.

The bed was comfortable, the AC worked well, and the location is hard to beat, less than 100 yards from the Air Force Base gate. For a solo traveler on a budget, it might be fine, but I wouldn’t bring my family. Check-in took about 20 minutes because we had to wait for someone to unlock the front door, even though it was normal hours. The staff were kind once they arrived. The property was disappointing, in poor condition, and the online photos were misleading. My room was supposedly clean but very worn, with holes in the ceiling, cracked floors and walls, a toilet hissing from a slow leak, and a small roach on the nightstand.

There was a lot of black mold in the rooms, and moisture had left ceiling tiles falling apart and bulging. The hair dryer looked rigged to maybe work, and I didn’t want to risk trying it. These pictures are just a few examples of what’s wrong with the place.
