Our soccer team was told to book here for a stay to play tournament, and one family’s Saturday reservation had already been given away by Friday. They were out of town with three small kids and suddenly had no room. The woman at the front desk showed no empathy and didn’t offer to make things right. Eventually they got a room with one king bed, which wasn’t really workable for a family of five. Another family offered to swap because they didn’t need two queens, but the hotel refused to change the sheets for the family moving rooms. So their room was taken away, the replacement didn’t fit what they booked or their family, and the hotel wouldn’t provide clean sheets when a solution came up. This would have been a four or five star stay otherwise.

The main thing affecting my rating is the loss of Marriott Bonvoy points. At check-in I was told I couldn’t earn them because I booked through a third-party app. I’ve earned points at SpringHill Suites before when booking through third parties, so this was unexpected. Since I stayed nearly two weeks, losing those points mattered and could have led me to choose another hotel. The front desk said this was a management decision rather than Marriott policy. Points are a major draw for many guests, and I think this approach should be reconsidered. The staff were friendly throughout, and the room was cleaned each day with fresh towels and regular trash removal. The front desk team also knew the local area and attractions well. The location is convenient if you’re traveling by car. Breakfast got repetitive during a two week stay. On several mornings, staff cleared breakfast and coffee before the scheduled time. There were few hot choices beyond the same scrambled eggs and a sausage patty, and not much fresh food. The fruit often looked unappetizing. The beds were comfortable and the sheets decent, but my room needed maintenance. Paint was peeling in the bathroom, with significant water stains. The shower door wouldn’t close all the way and leaked, the floor had grime and residue, and the shower molding was coming off. The toilet also ran through the night despite several attempts to address it. I hope this feedback helps improve stays and gives future guests a useful picture.

I booked two queen beds through Priceline.com, but at arrival they said the hotel and Priceline inventories didn’t match and told me to make do with a king. The bathroom sliding door and reading lights were broken, and the rooms looked very old. Staff apologized when I raised these problems but didn’t do anything about them. None of the restroom doors could be locked from inside. I was told guests had gotten locked in, so the locks had been jammed and couldn’t be used. Parking also costs extra even for one night, despite this being outside downtown and places with limited parking. It feels like they’re just taking more money from guests.

The location worked well for us, and having 54th Street Bar & Grill next door was handy. The interior is a little dated but clean, and the service was great. Breakfast was the weak spot. The coffee and waffles were good, but the sausage tasted like bland mystery meat and the scrambled eggs were watery.
