Staybridge Suites Stone Oak by IHG

The front desk woman understood why we were frustrated and offered a free cancellation, which was the one bright spot. We couldn’t take it because our first choice across the highway, Drury Plaza, had no availability, so we’re stuck here. The stairwells smell and are filthy, and parking is on the opposite side from the main entrance. We asked for a high floor but got the second. The pool and hot tub were both dirty, the hot tub didn’t work, and the pool wasn’t heated. The pool chairs were broken and torn. I’ll be calling corporate.

The beds and pillows were reasonably comfortable, and breakfast was pretty good. The rest of the place felt old and run-down. It looks like renovations are underway, but our room had stains, holes in the couch, and an overall dirty feel. Bright lights from the storage facility outside shone through curtains that wouldn’t close fully all night. The outdoor pool isn’t heated in winter, and the hot tub was only lukewarm. There were no lights at the pool in the evening. When we asked about problems, we were told maintenance would be contacted, but no one followed up. Half the weights were missing from the fitness area, and there weren’t any mats or other workout accessories. It feels like a budget property where management cuts corners. I don’t think I’d stay again unless they start caring about guests’ experience.

The rates were fantastic, and I’d choose this place first if I’m back in the area. My short stay left me wanting to write a five-star review. The building is clean and lovely, with a spacious, welcoming lobby, dining room, and business area. The room had a full-size fridge, stovetop, pantry, and a proper desk, along with comfortable beds and large, softly squishy pillows. Breakfast was free, continental, well stocked, and delicious.

The rooms were roomy and really comfortable, and the service was excellent. Breakfast had plenty of choices. I arrived while major renovations were going on, though, and the entrance wasn’t inviting enough for a five-star rating. The hotel is about ten minutes from the airport, but not close enough to offer a free shuttle. I’d recommend it, and I’d consider staying here again if I return to San Antonio.
