Super 8 by Wyndham San Antonio Downtown/Alamo

The location and price are what make this place worth a look: you can get on a bus right outside and reach things quickly, and the rates are extremely competitive. I’ve stayed here on and off for more than five years, and with the recent ownership, management, and staffing changes, the team has been caring, cheerful, polite, and professional. They seem ready to make things work for you. Renovations are continuing, and the new owners have some surprising changes planned, though I’ll leave it at that. For my money, the Super 8 by Wyndham Pearl district is a strong deal in a hotel that seems to be moving in a good direction.

The hotel was in a convenient area, but the people hanging around outside in the parking lot seemed like a questionable crowd. Inside, the room was disgusting. The sheets were stained and smelled dirty, the carpet had trash on it and clearly hadn’t been vacuumed, and there was dust around the tub along with a ring of dirt. There were roaches on the counter!

BED BUGS! The room was gross and smelled like smoke covered up with perfume. The shower was so dirty I didn’t even want to use it. Worst part, I woke up covered in bites. Now I’m worried the bugs could be in my luggage and get into my home.

We booked at the last minute after missing our train and paid $51 for one night. The Riverwalk is about a 25 minute walk away, but the room was awful. The fridge, TV, and some outlets didn’t work, and all the towels were dirty, so we left them alone. There was a dead roach on the floor, roach guts smeared on the wall, tiny flies dropping from the ceiling, and something dead and cut in half stuck to the wall, maybe a beetle or wasp. The door looked like it had been through several raids, and the curtains were torn as if by knives. We slept nervously, skipped breakfast, and left as quickly as we could in the morning.
