Travelodge Inn & Suites by Wyndham San Antonio Airport

It was quiet during our stay and nobody bothered us, which I appreciated. The room wasn't so dirty that we were completely uncomfortable, but I wouldn't return unless maintenance and housekeeping gave the rooms more care. The least they could do is sweep, mop, and sanitize properly. It's convenient if you're between living situations, but for a couple of nights, I wouldn't spend the money. I didn't raise our problems in the lobby because I didn't think anyone would help or offer to make things right. The room had some nice, quaint touches that made it feel less like a regular motel. But the floor was covered in grime, the area behind the toilet was dirty, and wiping the counter made it look like AJAX powder had been left behind without being rinsed. The accessible bath seat looked like it hadn't been moved or cleaned in years. The AC filter was dirty and the coils needed scrubbing. My husband cleaned them, and afterward the AC worked well. One of the two phones didn't work. There was nowhere to put our things in the bathroom, so we rearranged the room to suit us. We left a list of missing items at checkout so we wouldn't be charged for them. When we arrived, three bulbs were missing from the lamps. I asked the desk for bulbs and an extra towel. The woman said she had only one towel left, and they never found bulbs, so we bought some ourselves and left a few there. The fridge kept cooling down and icing over, so we threw out the food we brought. We also had no blankets or pillows for the pullout, apparently because they were out. On checkout day we woke around 10:40 and asked by phone if we could pay for a late checkout. The woman said we could have 30 more minutes because they needed to clean the room. That upset me, since it had looked clean when we first arrived but wasn't. The hotel may mostly serve extended-stay guests who bring their own things, but that doesn't excuse poor cleaning.

The beds were very firm, so you'll love them if that's what you prefer. That's the only reason I didn't give five stars. Service was great at check-in and throughout, and our room was clean and cozy. We enjoyed the pool, BBQ pits, picnic area and gazebo, and playscape. The breakfast area was clean and well stocked. We've already booked a room for our June stay, and I'm looking forward to coming back.

The location is great, and I liked that each cottage had a small covered porch. The landscaping and pool were lovely, and the pool is the bomb. There's also a covered pavilion with picnic tables and a barbecue pit. The cottage was adequate, but the couch was old, stained, and crusty. The bathroom had loose tiles and a strong urine smell. It's an old place that's a bit run down. Maybe the other cottages are better.

We brought a group with more than 10 rooms, and they worked with us to get a good price. For the cost and room size, I think it's a good deal, as long as you know what you're getting. The rooms are aged and need remodeling, some sofas need recovering, and the cleaning staff should do a much better job before turning rooms over. The pool and playground are very nice, with a covered area too. I'd recommend it for youth groups heading to Schlitterbahn or six flags.
