Hilton Garden Inn San Bernardino

The hotel is handy for nearby restaurants and the places we needed to visit, and the service was good. They also honored our request for daily cleaning, which we appreciated. It is frustrating that hotels make guests ask and then check whether rooms will be cleaned every day on longer stays. The rooms could use updating. Our carpet was stained, the furniture looked worn, and the shower leaked for most of the visit. Fixing that leak would save the company money. Still, it was a decent stay.

The west-facing room had a lovely mountain view, including Cucamonga Peak, and the hotel was so quiet it felt almost empty. Breakfast staff said occupancy was only about thirty percent. The bathrooms were clean and, for the price, it seemed like decent value. The location is good too. The rooms feel very dated, from the furniture and elevators to the overall eighties look, and there are very few outlets. We had a one-bedroom room and weren't upgraded despite being Diamond members, which was disappointing with so much availability. Parking also felt tight: the lot is small and was surprisingly full despite low occupancy. If the hotel were close to full, it would be a real problem. They plan to start charging for parking later this year, which seems unfair for this location and especially for loyal Diamond members. Breakfast was the biggest disappointment. The buffet setup is still there, but there's no buffet anymore. Diamond members get a $10 food and drink credit, which barely covers anything. A small Greek yogurt bowl is the only item that fits the credit completely, and it seems overpriced. Drinks are included, and the breakfast staff member was very friendly, but the food options weren't good. I ordered the Belgian-style waffle, which tasted good, but at nearly $15 before tip, I still paid several dollars after using the credit. Hilton should bring back proper breakfast service and increase the Diamond food credit. Breakfast used to be included, and this post-pandemic setup feels like a downgrade that was never fixed. The breakfast area is small, making the missing buffet even more noticeable. At night, the lobby doors were locked and we had to ring for entry. The staff member who answered wasn't rude, but seemed annoyed, which wasn't a great first impression. With remodeling and better treatment for Diamond guests, this could be much better. As it is, dated rooms, poor breakfast, planned parking charges and no upgrade for loyal members leave it short of what I'd expect from a Hilton Garden Inn.

The bathtub wouldn't drain, and there was no free breakfast. The paid breakfast was wildly overpriced. They also claimed I'd added a late checkout fee and wouldn't remove it, even though I checked out at 8 a.m. I'm a Hilton Honors member and stay with them almost exclusively for work. This wasn't very nice overall. Choose another hotel nearby for better value.

Before I even arrived, the staff accepted my packages and had them organized for me. The front desk team are cheerful and greet you with a smile. The rooms need some maintenance, but they work fine for a quick trip to San Bernardino.
