Best Western Downtown San Diego

At 75, my wife and I are traveling the California coast for two weeks, and we stayed here for two nights. The updated rooms were great, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great too, with French toast sticks and real eggs. I don't usually review the last 14 hotels and motels, but I highly recommend this one. It also has a shower head wand. BW is just 1 or 2 miles from all the tourist spots.

Olivia, GM, was helpful from check-in right through checkout and went above and beyond for us. The housekeepers were attentive, too, and the front desk handled all our requests and needs well. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and lit at night. We enjoyed the rooftop "garden" gathering spot. The building is a humble, quaint, two-story L-shaped motel-style lodge with limited parking. We flew in and used public transportation to avoid the $20/day parking fee. There may be street parking, but parking enforcement seemed very active around there. We were also surprised that the multi-story tower in one photo was just the building behind this hotel. The complimentary continental breakfast was delicious and was a deciding factor for us. We've stayed at several Best Western locations, and this was our favorite breakfast so far. Our room had a refrigerator and Starbucks K-cup coffee maker, but no microwave. The desk said we could use the breakfast room microwave if needed. We saved money with leftovers, and the filtered water by the ice machine meant we didn't need to buy bottled water. It's well placed for freeways and public transportation, near the Gaslamp and most things we'd want to see if we were happy to walk or take the bus or trolley. We went to Coronado Island and the SD Zoo, took the bus to and from the airport, and rode the trolley to old town.

The rooftop area was a lovely place to unwind in the afternoons, and the breakfast was the best, with lots of options and care put into it. Everything felt clean and comfortable. The location was great, and the staff were kind and hard working, which seems rare these days. Lots of little details showed they care about the guest experience. Keep it up.

We came to SD with friends for a quick Halloween celebration, and the staff were so kind. The place was clean and in a great spot, walking distance to the Gaslamp District. I'd stay here again if I'm in the area.
