Best Western Plus Bayside Inn

The staff were warm, attentive, and really nice. The beach is nearby, though there's also a railway line close by and you can hear it. At night I noticed a steady buzzing in the room, almost like a big fan was running next door. There's no complimentary breakfast, and I didn't think the price was good value.

We picked this place because it was the best-priced option we found downtown, right beside Little Italy. Our room had a microwave and mini fridge, and the hot tub was great. The heated pool still felt a bit chilly. There's no breakfast, but the lobby coffee maker makes all sorts of coffee. Parking was $30 a night, cheaper than nearly every other hotel I looked at. They also sorted out our hot water problem in 15 minutes. For the location, amenities, and price, it was an easy winner for us.

The bayside view is hard to beat, especially at sunset, and the neighborhood felt safe. Little Italy, the Embarcadero, Seaport, and Gaslamp are all easy to reach on foot. The airport is a quick Uber ride away, while a ride to the beach towns costs about $20-$25. There's a Starbucks across the street. I've stayed here every time I travel solo from New York State to San Diego, 2-3 times a year over five years. The rooms are clean, adequate, and recently renovated, with a K-cup coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator. The price for this location is hard to beat, and the staff are always kind, courteous, friendly, and respectful. I highly recommend it.

My husband drove all the way from Bakersfield for work and was turned away because he had several boxes of inventory he needed to work on. In five years, he'd never had a problem with his work inventory at any Best Western. The staff were very rude to him, and we felt he was treated discriminatorily. We pay for good service, and this was horrible, not even worth one star. Update: He called Best Western guest relations, and they booked him at the Seven Seas Best Western. He was welcomed there without hesitation and had no issue bringing all his work inventory. That makes it hard not to feel he was discriminated against at this hotel.
