Mission Bay Motel

The staff were nice, and there’s a clean pool, microwave, bar refrigerator, and TV. Still, this is a two-star hotel that badly needs a remodel. The bathroom window was broken and the bedside light didn’t work. There’s no AC, so with the windows open you hear traffic all night. The furniture and floors were dusty, and there was no coffee maker. Motel 6 is way better. The only reasons to stay are the spot across from the beach and the $100 weekday-night price.

At least it’s right by the beach. Otherwise, there’s no AC, fridge, or ice machine, the bed is old, the linens are scratchy, and they give you two towels for a room with three beds. Then after the trip I got charged extra because the fine print says you pay for parking. There’s a reason this place is cheap.

The staff were really nice about accommodating my check-in, and the beach location is convenient. But I’m writing this at one in the morning after lying in bed for three hours without falling asleep. The road traffic, drunk people yelling at each other, and loud upstairs guest all came through. My room was next to the main road with no insulation, so it felt like everything and everybody was in the room. I have work in a few hours and haven’t been able to get proper sleep. I can’t recommend it for anything beyond the convenient beach location, and the price felt high for what the room offered.

For motels in the area, 3200/mo seems like a decent price. It wasn’t busy or noisy, and check-in was quick. The employee was pleasant and spared me the forced, shrill interactions some big chains seem to require. A heads-up: rooms have no fridges, microwaves, or phones, so you can avoid an inconvenient surprise.
