My room was fine for an inexpensive place to stay near downtown, and I'd recommend it for a night or two. It was dated and could use fresh paint, but it was acceptable. I didn't see homeless people or drug users hanging around the lot, and it was cleaner than earlier reviews led me to expect. There was no microwave, but the mini-fridge was clean and worked. The water pressure was strong and stayed hot. The bed was comfortable, with three pillows of different sizes and firmness for different preferences.

We needed a basic place for one night. I booked before checking Yelp, then read the reviews and got scared by reports of roaches, bedbugs, and terrible stays. But when I arrived around 21:00 with my two boys, the room was clean and neat, with no odor or bugs. It's an older, outdated hotel, nothing special, but it was fine for the night. I wrote this for anyone who's unsure, since it seems all right for a night or two. The main problem was the shower: only lukewarm water and very low pressure. Staff were friendly, though, and otherwise it was fine for an overnight stay.

We keep coming back with the family, and the price is a big part of why. For what we pay, the comfort and service feel like a great deal. The rooms are roomy and consistently clean, and the beds are really comfortable. I always check for bed bugs as soon as I arrive at any hotel or motel, and haven’t seen any here. The staff are friendly and courteous, too. We can walk to places to eat and to the bus or trolley, which makes it easy to get around beautiful San Diego. Thanks, Travelodge, for the hospitality. I hope this helps other people decide. God Bless!

We planned to stay five nights, but left after the first because the room was so bad. The staff were friendly, and my coworker next door had a similar experience, but the hotel itself was disgusting. The carpet was damp, there was hair in the bed and on the towels, and the shower had hair and chipped plastic that cut my feet when I tried to use it. The toilet wouldn’t flush. We asked three times for someone to fix it, but they couldn’t, and still wouldn’t move us to another room. No one came to clean, and there were no amenities. The rooms felt gross and like they were falling apart.

The website photos gave me the wrong impression. We didn’t feel safe or like the place was clean, and left as soon as we could. In the room, a heavy musty, moldy cigarette smell hit us. It was dim even with the lamps on, with scuffs on the walls and tables, thin walls and windows, and graffiti inside a drawer where a Bible would usually go. Before that, the parking lot looked dirty and unsettling. Some first floor room doors were open, with people smoking in messy rooms. The scene struck me as like a crack house, and some people appeared to be under the influence and to have been living there for a while. I’m trying not to offend anyone, but it was that bad. There are no elevators, and on the way to the stairs we passed a dingy laundry room and creepy, dark halls. The stairs were filthy and tagged, with a dirty shirt, trash piled in a corner, an iced tea can, and a sock lying around. We booked somewhere else right away and tried to cancel. My husband waited in line behind a couple who were also cancelling. Watch out for the site's nonrefundable policy. The receptionist said he couldn’t refund us, but suggested contacting the booking site. I wouldn’t choose this for families or anyone wanting a safe, clean place.
