1 Hotel San Francisco

Walking to coffee shops and the Ferry Building weekend farmers market was easy, and the location worked so well for my long solo weekend. I absolutely loved staying at 1 Hotel San Francisco. The thoughtful design, sustainability focus, staff, amenities, and dreamy atmosphere all felt 10/10. At Bamford Wellness Spa, Crystal gave me a fabulous massage, one of the best I’ve had. The view of the Bay Bridge from the 8th floor made that morning unforgettable. I also want to call out Veronica, the host at Terrene, and Kayla, our server. They were warm and personal, and every meal at the hotel’s organic farm-to-table restaurant was delicious and beautifully prepared. True value and a perfect weekend for me.

The gym was spotless, and the spa was wonderfully relaxing. I stayed for two nights and had a great time. Staff were happy to help with any request, and the service, cleanliness, and location were all amazing. It’s close enough to walk to everything by the piers, with a quick bike ride taking you to the rest. One of my best stays, and I’d love to return.

The location is good for walking to the piers and lots of restaurants, and the place was clean and comfortable. But after stays at several other 1 hotels, including Brooklyn, LA, Nashville, Seattle, and Miami, this one felt pretty average and didn’t justify its luxury price. My room looked straight at an office building, with no view or privacy. I think water views may only come with a suite. Drinking water comes from a hallway fountain, whereas other 1 hotels have a faucet in the room. The $50 amenity fee is hard to understand when there’s no pool, sauna, or hot tub, and the gym is small. The spa is only available if you book a treatment, which starts at $300. Bathrooms are on the small side, and the plain room decor didn’t feel as luxe as the brand usually does.

I’ve never written a review before, but this stay was bad enough that I felt I should warn people. We cut our visit short and went to the Four Seasons instead. Compared with that, 1 Hotel felt like a 2 star hotel. There are better options nearby, and I’d avoid this one. The rooms felt dated, the walls were paper thin, and the decor, though beautiful, couldn’t make up for the small room or the poor service. On several occasions we got noise complaints while speaking casually, sometimes even whispering. The soundproofing was so poor that eventually police got involved and we were moved in the middle of the night. The manager insisted we’d been noisy and did nothing to make things right.
