The employees were very nice, and it was the cheapest place in the city when we booked. The next cheapest cost twice as much. Even so, it was by far the worst hotel I’ve stayed in, though it’s become a memorable story and maybe a kind of type 2 fun. We’d read the reviews and assumed people were being sensitive complainers, since we usually choose the cheapest accommodation and haven’t had issues. The walk from public transport felt scary, with big groups of homeless people and other unsettling loiterers around all night. The room was small, but had a heavy plastic mattress cover and a sink. No AC, just a wide open window facing an ally. There was no toilet in the room, only one toilet and one shower per gender per floor, and the bathrooms were filthy. Before staying, we checked the room, and the guy working there was a doll about it. There was a blood stain on the bed, but we were tired and couldn’t find another nearby place within budget, so the receptionist moved us to a room with a clean (?) bed. Our neighbors yelled and made strange noises all night on the first night. We also saw a mouse running down the hallway and could only pity its bad luck living there. Internet only worked beside reception.

The location is the main thing this hotel has going for it. I’m not picky about hotels, but when I first walked in I thought it was a one-star place. The front desk staff were of questionable help, and one of them sent us on an hours-long search for parking that didn’t exist. There is no parking. The walls are thin and the bathrooms kind of gross, so I found myself using the bathroom before returning to the hotel. It does have a mini fridge, TV, and WiFi. I might stay again, but I’d probably pay around $20 more a night for somewhere marginally better, which is probably most places.

The location is right across from Civic and Union BART, and the staff are very helpful and do what they can. You get what you pay for, though. The bed really isn’t meant for two people, and the other person may end up sleeping on the floor with extra sheets and a comforter. There’s just one toilet and one bathroom for the whole floor to share. Once I waited 25 minutes just to pee. The rooms and toilets are very unclean and poorly maintained. Spend a few extra bucks on a better hotel. Trying to save money here can cost you all your happiness.

I needed somewhere to stay, but regretted it as soon as I stepped into the room. The rooms seemed filthy, there are no TVs, and you have to share a disgusting bathroom with strangers. There’s no WiFi either. They have a budget inn WiFi network but wouldn’t give me the password. Worst of all, when I lifted the comforter, I found bed bugs. I was so tired I slept in my clothes on top of the bed. I wish I could rate this below one star. This was the worst hotel ever and should be shut down.

We were appalled. It took an hour to find the place, and the stay felt like a complete waste of money. The whole place smelled overwhelmingly of what seemed like 200 years of cigarettes and piss. Flies were everywhere when we walked in. There’s no elevator for handicapped guests. The bathroom was just a toilet at the end of the hall, and it soon got filthy. The sink was in the room. The shared bathtub was in a room that didn’t lock and had no shower curtain. Our bedroom was tiny, cramped, smelly, and full of torn and stained things. Its window faced six other room windows, with no privacy, and we could hear people whispering in halls and other rooms. The bed was so gross we wouldn’t let our skin touch it. We saw a dog piss in the hallway. The only way we could have enjoyed staying there would be to wrap ourselves in plastic from head to toe. Sleeping here compared with sleeping in sewage, except there was a door. For your health, hygiene, and dignity, don’t stay. If you’ve got no other option, sleep in your car, or buy gloves and something to wrap yourself in at walgreens, then cover the room with tablecloths or something.
