The Riu is in a convenient spot, about one block from Fisherman's Wharf and within walking distance of lots of bus routes. The hotel was clean and comfortable, though a bit dated. The bathrooms are small but workable. The beds weren’t very comfortable, and I could feel the springs, but I still slept amazingly. The rooms were noisy. Breakfast was the same most days during our week. The only change was skillet potatoes one day and hash browns another. They serve a lot of people, but made us uncomfortable when our whole party wasn’t together. We added our kids later because of a Priceline booking issue, and staff acted as though we were trying to cheat them. They weren’t friendly, as you’ll see in many other reviews. We wanted to meet visiting family in a common area and have takeout or pastries together, but outside food wasn’t allowed. You could only eat food from their very limited cafeteria. There were lots of empty tables because the food wasn’t appetizing. The receptionist suggested eating outside, but the sitting area was dingy and dirty, with no tables. There’s a small mini fridge in the room, but not a microwave unless you pay an extra $20, which felt like a rip-off. The staff seemed uptight and unhappy in their jobs, making the visit uncomfortable. I’d stay here again for the location, but it wouldn’t be my first choice.

The location was outstanding, and breakfast was amazing, with something for every taste. Our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The only issue for me was the limited counter space in the bathroom, but we made it work. We booked through Travelocity and arrived at 1 a.m., exhausted after being awake for well over 24 hours. The agent who greeted us was kind and sweet, got us checked in smoothly, and explained the services and policies. Parking is an issue in SF, and you should expect to pay, but the hotel’s underground garage was a good option for a reasonable fee. Tall SUVs and other tall vehicles won’t fit because of the height restriction. We could walk most distances to the wharf, or take a Waymo to a restaurant farther away. I’ve read other reviews, and honestly, I think some people complain just to complain. We found the whole stay wonderful, and the hotel and staff made our vacation even more memorable. We’ll stay again next year when we return.

The breakfast buffet is a huge reason to stay here, an amazing 10/10 way to start the day. The room was clean, the staff were amazing, and the location was great. There’s lots of underground parking, about $65 for the day, and your car will be safe. Highly recommend.

Before heading to the piers, it was great to get a proper breakfast for ourselves and the kids. There was a little bit of everything, not just the usual bagel and coffee. The hotel’s in a great spot too. We walked with the kids to pier 39, and Chinatown was about a 20-minute walk. That suited us fine since there was plenty to see and enjoy along the way.

The breakfast spread was well managed, and the outdoor seating area with a fireplace was really comforting. The location is lively, with tram stops and the pier close by and a great walk score. I’d read so many negative reviews that I was worried, but the hotel exceeded our expectations. The rooms and hotel were clean and spacious. The bathroom door was a little tight, but it wasn’t a deal breaker for us. The only surprise was the $125 resort fee for three nights, which we didn’t mind. I’ll definitely stay again.
