Lamplighter Inn San Luis Obispo

The customer service was great, and I appreciate that they tried to accommodate my request for a quiet room. But I can't believe this place costs $100. The floors were filthy and heavily stained. Two of the three rooms I saw had no A/C or fan, so I ended up sleeping with the window open. The hot tub was broken and the pool was dirty. I'll never stay here again, and I'd recommend you don't either.

UPDATE: The desk manager was very kind this morning and offered me another room. I'm moving to another hotel, though, and appreciate that one employee doesn't define the whole place. There was no heat in my room. I was told no one could help, but they could give me an extra blanket. The front desk guy said he'd asked the manager for space heaters, so this doesn't seem unusual. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told, "that isn't happening". They "might" have a heated room tomorrow, and "probably won't be able to get anyone to fix it over the weekend."

I had to stay here for work and didn't have much choice, but I can say without a doubt this place is a bio hazard. It was the middle of July and incredibly hot outside, and I had to switch rooms because the air conditioning didn't work. I took all these photos in the first 10 mins in the room, so I'll let them speak for themselves. If that bald headed guy is still working there, GOOD LUCK. He was one of the meanest people I've ever met.

Update. 11/13/2025. I appreciate the reply to my review, but actions are what matter. It looks like you copy and paste the same response to every bad review without fixing anything. The mold photo also seems to have disappeared, so I posted it and the review on the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce page. Do better and actually address the problem instead of posting a canned answer. I don't write many reviews, but I will when I get outstanding or horrible service. This was horrible. Reading the other reviews, I see I'm not alone. I don't like supporting AirBNB, but businesses like this make it hard to support local businesses. I don't understand why people in customer service don't understand the service part. Yes, it was relatively cheap, and I understand you get what you pay for. Still, with the service, closed pool and spa, mold, and broken shower door, I'll never stay here again or recommend it. Make sure to take a video of the place before leaving and check your bill, because a local told me they try to slip in extra "charges". Whoever manages this place needs to hire better staff. Here's a real conversation I had with Bill at the front desk, who seemed to hate his job. I waited 15 minutes. He walked in without acknowledging me, then acted like I'd interrupted his favorite TV show when he finally noticed me. Me: Hey. I'm in room 2105 and I picked up a rental car. I need to register it so I can park here. Every hotel I've stayed at has you register your car. Hates his job Bill: We don't do rental cars here. Me, confused: I know. I picked one up. I need to register it so I can park here. Hates his job Bill: Check in isn't til 3pm. Me, more confused: Are you messing with me? I'm already checked in and need to register the rental car so it doesn't get towed. Hates his job Bill: I don't know what you're asking. We don't tow cars here. Me: So I can park here and my car won't get towed? Hates his job Bill: Yes, you can park here free. Me: Why not say that at the beginning? If you don't like your job, quit. (Walks out.)
