Mission Inn San Luis Obispo

We slept really well here, and the place was quiet despite being close to 101. The Mission Inn was a convenient stop for me and my riding partner on our way south. We could keep our motorcycles in sight from the room, which put us at ease, and the room was spotless. The recent remodel looked carefully done. A friendly young woman checked us in and mentioned that calling the motel directly next time might get us a better rate than booking online. Higuera Street was an easy walk for dinner and a couple of beers. Clean, affordable, and well located.

The bathroom door wouldn’t lock properly, which was a big problem for us, and the rooms weren’t anything special. There was also a charge I hadn’t expected: $40 in service fees on a $150 room, with no extra service provided. The travel site I booked through said it couldn’t help because the hotel had charged it. The rooms smelled of fresh paint from the work underway. Be careful to check what you’re paying for, even if the room rate looks low.

There’s free parking, and our recently updated room was clean and nicely finished. The beds were comfortable, and the bathroom had a roomy shower.

The walls are thin, so we were lucky the place wasn’t busy. When someone walked along the landing, it felt like a mild earthquake. It’s also pretty expensive for a motel, though I guess that’s California. Still, I’d stay again when passing through. The room was clean, everything worked, and the beds were large and comfortable. The sheets had a slight musty smell, as did the room, but it wasn’t too bad and I stopped noticing after five minutes. We waited a little for someone to come to the front desk, then got a very friendly welcome.
