Sands Inn & Suites

I didn’t feel safe here, and the room door was broken. I had to use all my strength just to open and close it when I came and went. The other guests made the place look like it was being run as a brothel. The woman at the front desk said I could get a refund since I didn’t feel safe staying, but the manager has ignored my calls and emails for weeks. Unsafe and disgusting. This place needs to be shut down. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Our room wasn’t available when we arrived, so they moved us to an upgraded room at no extra charge. That’s great service. The room was immaculate and packed with top-notch conveniences. Breakfast had enough choices for a delicious full meal, all laid out neatly and easy to serve yourself. The buildings, pool, and other amenities also had a very appealing look and layout.

This place has potential, but it turned into the worst hotel stay I’ve ever had. We hadn’t even used the toilet and it overflowed. Then water shot out from pipes under the sink when we turned it on, and the room phone didn’t work when we tried calling the front desk. We went up to ask for a refund so we could leave for another hotel. The desk offered a free upgrade to a suite, and I agreed. All night the suite smelled like sewage, and sewage was coming through the shower pipes too. I called the next day asking for a refund and was told they’d get back to me, but they never did. I’d rate the stay 0-10. I felt bad for the people checking in the next day, since they had no idea what they were in for. I’ll never stay here again.

The room and grounds were spotless, and the room was comfortable. I arrived to find the air conditioner already on, so it was wonderfully cool. There were glass surfaces all over the room and I didn’t see a smudge anywhere. The bathroom even had facial cleansing wipes. The pool and jacuzzi were great, and pool towels were available right there. I was within walking distance of my destination, and the price was very reasonable compared with all the options I looked at in SLO. What really made the stay was the staff. Everyone I met was friendly, engaged, and treated me like a person rather than an inconvenience. They took care of a couple of special requests, too. Sands isn’t a full-service 4-Star hotel, but the little touches made it feel more upscale than a motel, and the staff would be an asset to any 4-Star property. Breakfast was good, with pastries, fruit, bread, cold cereal and milk, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage, and waffles. I don’t drink coffee, and water was the only cold drink available, with no juice or milk to drink. I stayed Sunday night and would definitely come back. Thanks for a great stay!
