Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, San Marcos, TX

Our stay had a string of small problems, and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel. The hallway smelled like sewer, and all three rooms were set to 80 when we arrived, so they were very hot. They were out of coffee for our entire stay, both mornings and evenings, which was disappointing for the grandparents who wanted a cup at night. Two of our three rooms had toilets that kept running and shower knobs that didn’t work properly. Someone had to come fix the TVs in all three rooms. And at 4 pm, when we checked in, they were still cleaning our room.

Read the reviews before you book. The only good thing about this hotel was the comfortable bed, which is why I gave it one star. The bathroom wasn’t clean and the sink was clogged when we arrived. I had to ask several times before someone came to fix it, though he was helpful once he arrived. During our three-night stay, the room was never cleaned. On day two, someone came by and asked whether we were checking out. When I said no and requested cleaning, she told me we were on the no-service list. The hotel was packed every night, and at those room prices they should be able to clean. It’s disheartening to see the GM say these complaints are being addressed when hundreds of the same issues still appear month after month. Maybe it’s fine for one night if all you want is a place to sleep. If you need anything more, try the Hilton or another hotel. I was very disappointed.

We had three people in the room but only got two towels and one washcloth. The in-room coffee maker had no cups, so we went downstairs, where the lids didn’t fit the cups. During our two-night stay, we never saw a cleaning crew or housekeeping. The elevators weren’t working, the carpets were filthy, and the beds were lumpy. Looking at older reviews, these same problems have been mentioned for a long time. It’s hard to believe anyone intends to fix them.

The person who checked us in was courteous, but the hotel wasn’t worth the price. Maybe I’d give it three stars at $50 a night, maybe. For what we paid, I can’t recommend it. The lobby smelled like mold, and the elevator clearly hadn’t been wiped down, swept, or mopped in a while. Our bathroom floor hadn’t been swept or mopped either. The towels might have been clean, but they were paper-thin. Judging by the floors, I was honestly scared to shower.
