Motel 6 San Rafael, CA

It’s an average, affordable place if you need somewhere simple to sleep before moving on. The location is convenient, close to main roads, and easy to reach. The room was basic, nothing fancy, but acceptable for a short stay. Service was fine too: the staff were generally polite, and check-in and checkout went smoothly. No major problems, though nothing especially memorable.

I came from out of town to stay here, and as I was getting ready to lie down in room 125, I spotted a bug moving. When I got closer, it turned out to be a bed bug. I told the front desk, and they moved me to a smoking room. I wish zero stars were an option, because that’s what they would have earned.

The website said an 18-year-old could check in, so I booked a room for my 19-year-old son while he was working at another location in the area. After work, around 9 p.m., he was told he had to be 21, and they wouldn’t refund the booking. No mother wants to be two hours away knowing her kid has nowhere to sleep for the night. Customer service, understanding, and compassion really seem to be gone. I’m out more than $200 and he didn’t even get a filthy room to stay in, judging by these other reviews.

The room would have been acceptable otherwise, and I did like the nice feather pillows. But the bed was one of the worst I’ve ever slept in. I don’t usually have back problems, yet I woke up screaming from the pain. It was so agonizing that I had to go sleep in my car.
