Red Roof Inn Richmond - Airport/ Sandston

I booked a medical guarantee for a first-floor room, as I had for the past two weeks of this trip, because my son uses a wheelchair. When we arrived, they tried to put us on the second floor, and there’s no elevator. The front desk staff were rude and didn’t care at all. She got nasty about how it wasn’t her fault. No accommodation, no apology, just apparently expected me to get my son and his wheelchair up to the second floor. I have to be at work in 30 minutes and was left with nowhere to stay. The place looked nasty anyway.

The room had a comfortable bed, quiet air conditioner and heater, and plenty of space. The refrigerator and microwave were handy, though there was no dresser or drawer space, so I used the area under the microwave for my suitcase and the closet shelf for extra clothes. There’s a desk with a nice chair. If you’re picky about pillows, bring your own, though I liked the pillows. Hot water came right away, the sink drained well, and the toilet flushed quickly. A couple of tiny bugs showed up in the bathroom very early one morning, but they were easy to squash and I didn’t see any the last night. Fresh towels were left each day and the wastebasket was emptied. I don’t need the room made up since I’m just there to sleep, and we’ll return. This is an old hotel with remodeled rooms, and the price is great. We stayed several months ago and came back last weekend. The last time, the shower was broken at night, so the front desk gentleman came up and gave us the room next door when it couldn’t be fixed. This time, we checked the room first and got moved again because the toilet didn’t seem to flush properly. The other room was upstairs with no elevator, which was fine for us. No fuss either time, and the staff were wonderful.

The bathroom ceiling started leaking into the tub while I was in bed, and I heard the water running during the day. The microwave didn’t work, and the front desk said maintenance wasn’t there. There was no TV remote or soap, so we used conditioner to wash until we went to CVS the next day. The sheet was stained, the floor was sticky, and there was mold, stains, and holes in the wall. This was possibly the worst hotel or motel I’ve stayed in. I don’t know how it’s allowed to exist. Don’t stay unless you literally have no other choice.

I posted photos of the room’s actual ugliness, not the ones that make it look pretty. If I could give zero stars, I would. I booked this for my daughter while she was in town, and her safety is my priority as a mother. The room had bugs, a dirty bedspread, and a door that wouldn’t lock properly. When I called the front desk, the staff member was rude and no help at all. At 10 PM I had to scramble to find her another hotel. Thankfully, I found one that was much safer and cleaner, and their manager even picked her up so she wouldn’t be at risk. I’d never recommend this place.
