The location is close to downtown dining and shopping, but the property itself feels peaceful and tucked away. My stay at Ala Mar/Villa Rosa Inn Santa Barbara felt like a private Mediterranean villa, with Spanish architecture, greenery, and a calm courtyard. The rooms each have their own character, with high ceilings, curated decor, and comfortable bedding. They felt elegant and cozy, intimate rather than commercial. The staff, starting at the front desk, were warm and helpful without hovering. The husband-and-wife owners also shared details about all 3 properties. It felt more like being welcomed into a stylish private estate than checking into a hotel. The grounds are beautiful, and it seems like a lovely choice for a romantic getaway or a restorative weekend. After such a great stay, I'm planning to host my yoga retreat at the facility in May.

The shower pressure was fantastic, and I loved the pool and hot tub area. The location is great and the staff are nice, but it feels like you're mostly paying for the location. The rooms felt a little dirty. My feet were black from walking barefoot on the floor, even after showering, and there was mold on the AC unit. The bed was uncomfortable, and the fitted sheet kept coming off no matter how often we fixed it. Housekeeping came once, on the second night, and opened the door without knocking while we were in bed. We never saw them again and didn't get fresh towels or any other service during our three-night stay. We didn't ask at the front desk, so that part's on us. They own a couple of nearby motels, and I'd be curious whether those are better, but I wouldn't return to Tide Pools.

The staff were amazing, from housekeeping to admin. Melody checked us in and went out of her way to get us settled and make sure we had what we needed. The place felt warm and welcoming, and the value was outstanding. Rooms were clean and comfortable, and the King Suite had a jacuzzi tub, dining nook, living room, patio area, and full kitchen. There's also a jacuzzi and pool where you can unwind after a day at the beach. The Tide Pool Villas are great for short or longer stays. This apart-hotel is a block from West Beach, a block from State Street, and a short walk to Stearns Wharf and Santa Barbara Harbor. The location really couldn't be better. There's a daily breakfast and wine and cheese happy hour. We'll absolutely come back. Just book it, you'll thank me later.

Breakfast was really good, and all the staff were super friendly and attentive. The rooms were comfortable and the location couldn't be better. We had a great time and honestly wish we'd stayed longer.

Check-in took about 30 minutes because the computers were down. Our first room had dirty cleaning rags left in the living room and a broken back door lock. In the next room the keys wouldn't work. The third room had three TVs but only one worked, no microwave or dish soap, and the living room bed was really lumpy. Then we were given a lesser room, but they wouldn't lower the price. The bedding looked used up. Stay somewhere else.
