Clarion Hotel Somerset - New Brunswick

Good value, and I'd stay again if I couldn't find something better nearby at a similar price. The room was clean overall, with white sheets and a comfortable bed, but the decor felt dated and the walls were grubby. Nothing was damaged. The bathroom coffee machine was an odd touch, and the shower design took me ages to figure out. Wi-Fi didn't work, the AC sounded like a small jet engine, and water pressure was minimal. The halls smelled funny. 6.5/10.

The only part I might enjoy here is the little attached restaurant and bar. The hotel itself was a terrible experience. The carpets were old and nasty, and the microwave and fridge were out of order, so my food went bad in a fridge that never turned on. They overcharged us, put my husband and me in an adjoining room with loud drunks, and refused to help with any of it. They require a deposit, won't take cash for it, and mine still hadn't come back 12 days later. Housekeepers cleaned while their kids ran around, and the front desk couldn't help with a damn thing. They present this as an upscale place, yet don't even offer room service. Worst hotel stay ever.

The place was horrible and so stuffy, with smoke or other smells that made my kids feel sick. Everything seemed rusty and dirty. The floor never looked cleaned, and the bed and AC were so dusty we couldn't stay there for an hour. The bedspreads were filthy and unwashed, and there were no returns either.

Really good for the price, and Sam at the desk was extremely nice, understanding, and helpful. My only complaint is that the maids try to open the door even when the do-not-disturb sign is up. Otherwise, no complaints.
