We stayed in unit #2 at the "Compound", a small lodging place with about a dozen semi-joined units. It had a king bed, two full bathrooms, an equipped kitchen, a washer and dryer, and even a Weber gas grill on the patio. Parking was included and the neighborhood was quiet. The Plaza is about a four-block walk. This hidden gem may be the best lodging deal in Santa Fe. One tip: arrive during daylight to check in, since it's set back from the road and can be tricky to find after dark.

Unit 11 was spectacular on our second stay, even better than unit 9, though I know the units vary. Campanilla is also where we’d choose over the famous place on the Plaza. Its location makes it easy to walk around Santa Fe Plaza, and the construction was blissfully quiet. The only snag was the Wi-Fi, which didn’t work. We could get some access through the adjoining unit, but that became a real concern when we unexpectedly needed telemedicine. Staff were attentive once we let them know.

The office is staffed on site, and everyone there was very helpful. We found it easy to walk downtown from this lovely old adobe, about three blocks away, with restaurants, parks, and museums close by too. The traditional rooms have been freshly updated with plenty of amenities, each has its own Kiva, and the kitchen was well stocked. Such a delightful stay, and I’d happily recommend it.

The snow falling outside and margaritas by the Kiva fireplaces made our weekend feel just right. We ended up indoors much more than planned because of the weather, so I was especially glad we’d booked Unit #9. It was roomy, comfortable, and furnished really well. My family and I would definitely come back.
