We could get around easily by metro and bus, and the walk to the Pier took about 20 minutes, with restaurants along the way. We also really liked Pollo Loco, the Mexican restaurant a block away. We’ll definitely stay at Santa Monica Hotel again. It was affordable and very clean, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Laura at reception checked in every day to see if we were having a good time or needed help. She was exceptional. In the morning they put out fresh fruit, granola bars, and packaged muffins, which was a nice grab-and-go touch for our outings.

The service was great and the rooms were decent, but I gave it a low rating because of the location and security. Someone who seemed homeless got past reception and went far enough inside to try opening room doors. It makes you wonder what could happen if a guest or staff member forgot to lock a door. That person was doing what they needed to do, but the hotel needs to take responsibility for keeping the place clean and safe.

I stayed here on and off for work for about a month. The rooms were consistently spacious, with clean sheets and towels, and the staff were friendly and focused on helping guests. They kept an eye out for vagrants and could call off-site security when needed. For Santa Monica, it’s a very good deal if you need to stay in the area. Parking is free, and I never had trouble finding a spot.

The manager is a wonderful woman, and she was the only good thing about this hotel. They claim to welcome pets, but that’s a lie. I got so stressed that I ended up in the hospital. She said they’d give me a full refund, but thank God I don’t need it.
