The person who checked me in was warm and friendly, but on other days the front desk staff weren’t. Checkout was especially unpleasant, and one team member had quite an attitude. A couple of friends recommended this hotel, so maybe I had bad luck, or maybe it really isn’t worth the hype. The room was okay, but not practical. It had only two outlets, both below the nightstands, so I had to charge my phone by the bed instead of at the table by the sofa, and couldn’t plug in my laptop while working there. The TV was in an uncomfortable spot, and water leaked out of the shower, leaving the bathroom messy and potentially slippery. I ate at the hotel twice. The food was okay, not superb, but both checks had a discrepancy between the menu prices and what I was charged. I reported it each time. When I raised it at checkout, the front desk said my hotel card credit covered the dining and that I wouldn’t be charged. The recommended “lounge” for sitting and working was uncomfortable and badly lit, and there’s no business center. Getting to the room was a maze: take one elevator, walk outside, then take another. I had other problems during my two-night stay too, and wouldn’t book without researching carefully first.

I was blown away by the rooms. They’re stunning, with Aesop products and a huge shower with a marble floor that felt so luxurious. I loved this hotel and didn’t want to leave. The service was more than good. The team, especially downstairs in the restaurant, kept going above and beyond. Jonathan and Will in particular were wonderful.

Jeremy Leonard made this our most enjoyable hotel stay in LA. He took great care of my wife Mila and me, and was so friendly with our puppy, bringing her a bed and treats. He’s a real professional, and we wish more hotel staff were as thoughtful. Thank you. We love The Proper Hotel, and the warm, kind, welcoming staff made the visit a pleasure for all of us.

The rooftop has a great atmosphere, and the restaurant is magnificent. I got to chat for a bit with mr. Jeremy, who was so welcoming and clearly knows this industry well. A really nice guy who kept finding ways to make us feel at home. It’s a fantastic, beautiful property, with world-class service that was friendly, professional, and accommodating. They had all the details covered.

We stayed at Proper Santa Monica for Mother’s Day weekend, and the interiors by Kelly Wearstler were beautiful. We’ll absolutely come back to see them again, and because Daniela Duford, Jeremy, and Elijah made us feel so well cared for at Palma restaurant. Daniela made sure I got to enjoy the Mother’s Day brunch and greeted us with the warmest smile every time we came in. Jeremy kept checking that we had what we needed and went above and beyond. Elijah was exceptional too. Over all three days, no matter how long his day was or how busy the restaurant got, he brought the same energy, kindness, and genuine hospitality each time we saw him. That kind of consistency is rare. Their service felt personal and thoughtful. All three deserve a lot of recognition.
