The bathroom was dreadful. The tub was rusty, dirty, and held water, and standing in it felt like standing on sandpaper. The caulking looked awful. I complained and was moved to another room, but that one was worse, with what looked like white out covering rust. An employee said the rooms were all similar because the hotel had recently been purchased and was waiting for renovation. She also said the tournament made it hard to find another hotel. My son and I were there Thursday to Monday for a soccer tournament, and our travel agents had assigned us this place through a stay-to-play arrangement. We stayed because some of his teammates were here and he wanted to use the pool with them. He suggested buying shower shoes, so we did. The hotel felt very outdated, and the surrounding area seemed somewhat sketchy. The room was basic and somewhat acceptable, but humid, with a temperature that was hard to adjust. The Wi-Fi was terrible too. Four nights cost me $1,125, and it wasn’t worth it. As a parent of two soccer-playing sons, I travel and stay in hotels often. Holiday Inn Express is usually reliable and has great breakfasts, but this location was deeply disappointing.
Around 2/23/2026, the front desk was no help when I arrived. I’d booked five days ahead, but they said they only had one day available. I’d also called ahead to request a credit card authorization form, but staff refused to discuss it by phone, and even after I emailed asking for the form, they wouldn’t send it. After a four-hour drive, I gave them the same email address I’d used with them. The staff said they had sent it to the wrong email. I called my company to check, but they still hadn’t received it. Only after I prompted the staff again to send it to the address they’d already used with my company did they finally send it. They weren’t apologetic and showed no concern about the delay. It felt like they were going out of their way to make me uncomfortable and unwelcome. It was one of the most frustrating hotel check-ins I’ve ever had. Luckily, I booked another hotel for the rest of the trip. Honestly, they did me a favor, since the room smelled moldy and the place looked run down. Thanks.
Yairelee was excellent at check-in, and when I told her the A/C had stopped working, she offered condolences for my loss before arranging for maintenance right away. By the time I got back that evening, they’d installed a completely different unit and the air conditioner worked. The lobby, hallways, and my room all looked clean and well cared for. I slept well in a very comfortable bed. I’d been concerned after reading negative reviews, but was glad I booked. I was there for two days to attend a military funeral at the National Cemetery. Before the afternoon service, I had time for a coffee and danish from the complimentary breakfast and a trip to Siesta Key. When I returned, the room was much warmer than when I’d left. I told Yairelee I didn’t know when I’d be back from the funeral, and she said she’d contact maintenance immediately. It’s not a new property, but it isn’t run down. You can see work being done around the property, and with service like this, it’s a great place to stay.
The location made getting around easy, with quick access to the highway and beaches nearby. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was comfortable, neat, and clean. Breakfast was the highlight, fresh, tasty, and with plenty of choices. We had a wonderful stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Sarasota, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting.
We’re at the hotel for a week, and the rest of the staff have been great. The hotel is pretty clean and the pool is beautiful. But for us, an 80-year-old couple, this room isn’t comfortable for spending the evening watching TV. It only has an office swivel chair and another chair with no way to put our feet up. We can’t sit or lie on the bed to watch because it hurts our backs. We couldn’t get a week’s stay in a room with a sofa and king bed or two comfortable chairs, and the desk staff said nothing could be done to make even two comfortable chairs available. When we arrived, the desk clerk said we had no reservation, even after we showed her our prepaid paperwork. We’re paying over $328 a night for a room without what we asked for, plus dirty carpet. The desk seems to have a bitter attitude toward customers. I’ve been a Holiday Inn Express customer for years and years, and every other one has bent over backwards to give us what we requested. We’ve traveled across the entire US and always stayed at Holiday Inn Express.
