Sauk River Inn & Suites, a Travelodge by Wyndham

The location in Sauk center is good, and the basic breakfast was decent. But I stayed just one night for a wedding and won't be back. The room was run down and dirty, with dust everywhere and hair from previous guests in the shower and on top of the blow dryer. Under the beds were a leftover mt.dew bottle, lighter, wrapper, and a ton of dust and sand. Who knows how long it had been since anyone vacuumed or mopped there. A knob on the desk drawer came off when my husband opened it. At 3am the smoke alarm went off long enough to wake my family. A cop car and two fire trucks arrived, but it was a false alarm caused by the hotel's faulty system. We also used the pack n play for our 1 year old, and it was stained all over. Gross.

After a long drive, construction noise kept going until after 9 while we were trying to sleep. We had called ahead to ask if the pool and hot tub were working and were told yes, but when we arrived they were coincidentally under construction. The ice machine was broken, and the TV remote didn't work with our room's TV. Nobody was at the front desk when we went there, and no one answered when we called for help. Worst experience ever. We won't book here again.

The jacuzzi suite had a nice tub, but the breakfast was a joke. Don't come here planning to use the pool. It had been closed for months, and we only found out when we arrived and saw it blocked off, with nobody even working on it. They said it was being repainted, but when we could see inside, it was still three-quarters full of water and had floaties in it. If a business advertises a pool, it should fix it and reopen it or stop advertising one.

Breakfast was a letdown too. At check-in, we were told it ran from 7:00-10:00 a.m. When we came down at 9:30, the shelves were empty, with just a gallon of milk and a few yogurts left in the fridge. The front desk told us breakfast actually ended at 9:00, even though we'd been given different hours, and responded to our concern with a careless “oh.” There were stains on the comforter as soon as I walked in, and a chair had been shoved awkwardly into a corner, making it hard to move around. The AC started giving off a burning smell shortly after I turned it on, which was concerning and unpleasant. The bathroom was unacceptable. The toilet shifted every time it was used and sounded like it might break with each flush. There was no soap at the sink or in the shower, and two adults had just one towel. The shower drain was badly clogged, and the toilet paper roll was nearly empty when we arrived. This place charges far too much for a stay this poor. I rarely leave reviews, but I'm extremely disappointed. The money I spent felt completely wasted. Book somewhere else.
