Higgins Beach Inn

The food was phenomenal, especially Shade. I highly recommend the lobster scampi! The location is excellent, and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The only downsides are that the rooms are a little small, about the size of a standard bedroom, and it’s a three story building with no elevator. If you have mobility issues, request a first floor room when booking.

Winnie, the bar and restaurant manager, made the dining and bar experience amazing. The food and drinks were fresh and wonderful every day, and all the employees were super nice and helpful. The location is great, close to the beach, Portland, and Scarborough without being in the middle of a big city. The inn and rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable. We had a great stay!

The rooms were clean, and Higgins Beach is beautiful. The inn’s location is great, but we were really disappointed with the stay. Our room smelled moldy and felt very damp, and it was cold. The AC wouldn’t switch to heat because they were still in “summer mode” at the end of September. They offered us a heater on the second night. The rooms aren’t soundproof at all. We could hear everything, from neighbors’ phone calls to the receptionist talking with a colleague at 06:30. Staff didn’t seem to make any effort to keep quiet or respect guests’ sleep. I didn’t feel comfortable there and was glad to leave after two nights. The receptionist must have known we weren’t happy, but didn’t even ask how the stay was. We’re glad we left and won’t return.

We had dinner at the inn tonight, and the menu was a huge improvement over last summer’s. The Kale Caesar salad was delicious, and the seafood chowder was packed with lobster, fish, and potatoes. Perfect for a rainy night, and there was so much that I took some home. The cocktails and beers were delicious too. If they have the peanut ice cream, get it!
