This place has real potential. My family used to own a hotel, and I can see what it could become. The manager was a total star, really helpful and very sweet, especially after Expedia badly messed up my reservation. It’s also close to Humboldt Redwood State Park, and they offer free beer and whiskey. The location is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, with no proper restaurant nearby. The rooms and facilities are very old and worn, and housekeeping did a really poor job. Still, I’d definitely stay here again.

I paid over 700 dollars for three nights, and the cleanliness and staff experience were awful. When we arrived a few weeks ago, the first room was completely unacceptable: bodily fluids and dog hair on the bed and sheets, poop spots in the toilet, and a strong filthy smell. There was an open housekeeping closet under the stairs beside the bathroom. It smelled strongly of rat pee or something terrible, and had rat traps, mops, a broom, and a toilet plunger stored beside supposedly clean sheets and towels. Dust from the stairs above was visibly falling onto the linens and towels. I have photo and video evidence, and there are pictures on Maps. My husband complained, and we were moved to a cleaner room, but it still smelled like Pine-Sol mixed with rot, as if cleaning products were covering something dead. There were no window screens, and I woke to my baby crying after being bitten by bugs. Housekeeping never serviced the room during our stay. I had to keep asking the front desk for basic supplies. The short-haired blonde woman at the front desk seemed highly intoxicated and was dressed in a way that exposed her chest and stomach. I found it extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate for a hospitality setting. She also handled our food. The hotel advertises a restaurant, but what we got was prepackaged, frozen, frostbitten food reheated in an air fryer oven. The chicken strips were cold and raw in the middle, and I believe they made me ill. I saw her handle money and other things between preparing the food without washing her hands at the sink by the checkout station. She wore her hair down, was talking on her phone, and seemed noticeably intoxicated for almost the whole interaction. This was unsanitary and not a restaurant in any meaningful sense. Christine was shockingly rude and dismissive. She treated me like I was the problem instead of taking the conditions seriously, and gave no apology. Her behavior was unprofessional and made me wonder why she works in customer service at all. She needs management and customer service training. Christine's reply talks as if it knows about my stay, even though ownership has since changed. That makes me think this is another attempt by Christine to cover up her terrible management, and it reinforces what I experienced. Her response says there were increasingly hostile interactions, but I wasn't the one communicating with her, my husband was. He stayed calm and respectful throughout what she called a dispute. There was no hostility from our side. The dispute was made up, or she's thinking of another confrontation, since I'm sure she's had many. These concerns were real and documented. This review is about my actual experience. Blaming the guest for the cleanliness and terrible staff experience fits with what I dealt with before. There's no accountability again. This was one of the most foul, nightmarish hotel experiences I've had. There are serious cleanliness, safety, and management problems here.

The cider company nearby is a lovely stop, with food trucks that rotate through, and the beach is gorgeous. The redwoods are breathtaking too, so it’s a great place for a weekend visit to Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The hotel itself is such a cute historic spot, and the staff made me feel really welcome. When the hot water went out, they offered me a bathtub in the spa area. Best bath of my life!

We’d happily stay here again. Our room was comfortable and nicely put together, and the hotel has a cozy charm. The staff were friendly and helpful, and greeted us with a complimentary drink. The pour-over coffee, chocolates, and little pours of scotch and gin were a fun touch. It made a great base for exploring the redwoods, though some of the common areas could still use a bit of work. And seriously, the shower pressure gave me the best shower of my life!

Everything felt beautiful and homey, and the bed was SOOOO comfortable, which you don’t often get at a hotel. The staff were friendly and accommodating too. We had the BEST experience here. 100% recommend.
