HYATT house Scottsdale/Old Town

The location is very good, about a 10-15 minute walk from Old Town Scottsdale and close to bars and restaurants. The rooms were okay, a bit tired but good enough, and breakfast was okay too. Our stay was fine until checkout. The male front desk staff member was extremely rude and disrespectful. When I asked for the final charges, he said, “just the usual.” Since we were on a road trip staying at several hotels with different parking and resort fees, I asked for the final bill so I’d know what would be charged to my card. He asked what I was expecting and refused to provide it. That’s a simple, reasonable request, and he seemed to enjoy making it difficult. I'll choose somewhere else next time.

The lobby and breakfast area are spacious, and the breakfast selection was pleasant and substantial enough for hungry kids. Staff were all friendly and accommodating. It's also easy to walk to Old Town and the mall. Still, the hotel badly needs maintenance and updating. The pool was dirty and full of bees, and one sting was enough for me. The carpet left my feet black when I walked without shoes, and the bathrooms are starting to have mold and mildew problems. I probably won't return until it gets renovated, but after that it could be one of the better choices in the area.

The rooms are good, and I stay here when I'm in the area for a trip. I love having a kitchen with a stove, microwave, and dishwasher. The dishwasher is noisy, though, so don't expect to sleep if you're on the pullout.

Our two-bedroom grand king room had lots of space, two good-sized king bedrooms with attached bathrooms, and a full kitchen and dining room of our own. We liked it enough that we're booking again this year. Breakfast has a good range of hot and cold food and is available for a decent stretch in the morning. The pool is small, but fine for a dip, with lawn chairs and a few umbrellas for sitting in the sun or shade. There are no elevators, but it's only two floors. The design won't win awards, but staff are warm and friendly, the property is well maintained, and Wi-Fi and parking are free, which is hard to find around here. Old Town's highlights are less than a 10-minute walk away, at a good price.
