The rooms are spacious and the amenities are clean, but the staff were no help with room service or basic questions. We were in the wedding party, so staying here wasn’t much of a choice for me and my fiance. We called about 3 weeks before the wedding to discuss the room and rate, but apparently no one working after 430pm could help, and the woman responsible doesn’t return voice mails. On the wedding day, the hotel staff had no idea what was going on or where the bridal party should be. They also didn’t seem to understand that paid services should be honored. We left some clothes in our room and contacted the supervisor that night. She told us to call at 7am when housekeeping arrived, and said they’d ship them back, but wanted to charge us. After I explained our bad experience and asked her to imagine being in my shoes, she agreed to ship them at no cost. Three weeks later, after about 4 calls a week to the 4 supervisors and the general manager, who works at the most invaluable hours of the day, we got only 2 of the 4 pieces of clothing. I’m not even upset at this point, I just want people who value decent service and being treated like paying clients to know: don’t book at Cottonwood Resorts in Scottsdale. We’ve stayed at various hotels around the country, and this was by far the worst and most frustrating. No one on the day or night shift seemed engaged, able to answer questions, or willing to return calls in a timely manner.
The exterior is kept up nicely, but the room was dirty around the tiny kitchen. The refrigerator was old, very small, and barely worked. There’s no microwave in the room unless you ask to have one brought up. The swamp cooler was also very loud and seemed to run constantly while struggling to keep the room cool. On top of that, Priceline charged me an extra $18 per night as a “resort fee,” which got me two water bottles each day. That felt like a complete hoax and rip-off by Cottonwood and Priceline.
The resort staff were welcoming, and they gave us a discounted upgrade to the largest casita, which I appreciated. When I raised my concerns with the front desk, they did help improve the stay a bit, though I felt they could have done more to change my mind. I requested a roll-away bed and they wouldn’t accommodate that. The casita wasn’t updated despite the discounted price, and parts of the beds, furniture, kitchen, bathroom, and renovations were worn, damaged, or outdated. The ceiling leaked onto a headboard while we slept, and there were blood stains on a pillow and case. The grounds weren’t kept or landscaped well. I work in the resort industry and didn’t think this met Scottsdale resort standards. Given the amount we paid, I expected more. It’s in an upscale, convenient Scottsdale location, but I’ll never stay here again.
Outdated is the word. The pool area and bar service were the only decent parts, and at least they provide towels, though drinks cost a lot. The room was mediocre and needed serious renovation: old beds and decor, very old TVs, and a kitchenette without basic glassware or utensils. Cleanliness was average, neither great nor disgusting, and the pull-out couch was horrible. For a $15 nightly resort fee, I expected more. They should hold off charging that until they upgrade the property. If you want a full-on resort, this isn’t it.
The rooms felt so dirty we couldn’t relax or touch anything, and the place didn’t feel romantic. It looks like it hasn’t been updated since the 70s. The pictures are seriously photoshopped, and I wish we’d read reviews before coming. We had a voucher for a FREE appetizer at the pool bar, but the chips and salsa were tasteless.
