The Crow's Nest

The odd layout is one of the first things you notice. This older house has been divided up to add rooms and bathrooms, and heat varies around the place: a furnace in the core, with baseboard or freestanding heaters elsewhere. We were cold getting up in the morning, and some rooms had no working heat. There were also unsafe electrical concerns and many other maintenance issues. Cabinet doors need adjusting, there are several trip hazards, and this isn’t accessible for people with disabilities, since rooms are upstairs or downstairs. The dishwasher did a poor job, and the dryer underperformed. Its exhaust may need cleaning. Several sink aerators need to be cleaned or replaced. We wanted to grill, but the grill was so dirty we spent 30 minutes cleaning it first. The place could use a week of general maintenance, especially for an expensive BnB, and these issues took away from the experience. Maybe I’d like it better in the esrmer months, if the windows and blinds worked well. I’ll stop here, though I have plenty more to say. The place is spacious and in a great location, but we were very disappointed with what we got for the price. The whole house felt unclean and creepy, with dust and dirt around, sticky tables, spiders and webs, and a musty, moldy smell. The photos made it look amazing, so kudos to whoever took them. The living room furniture was in bad shape. The rocking chairs had stains and smelled, and the couches smelled raunchy too, with a large hole behind you and a strong urine odor. There was a fun house mirror in the main floor bathroom, and it was difficult to turn, move, or sit. The beds were very uncomfortable, the bedding was wet, the sheets had holes, and the pillows were sad. In the downstairs bathroom, you can sit on the toilet while washing your hands. The kitchen was rough as well. The pots and pans were very old, with scraped-off Teflon or food stuck inside, so clean everything before using it. If you have kids or pets, keep them away from the fenced outdoor area: there’s an escape hole and nails everywhere. Tall people should watch their heads, and the windows barely open, if at all. We’re sad we paid this much for a stay that fell far short. It could be a cool place if it were gutted and redone. An Airbnb should deliver what it advertises.

The location is great, but the layout is odd and the place needs a lot of maintenance.
