Bring a door bar, since there’s no chain lock. People kept going in and out of rooms all night, apparently visiting friends in other rooms. The younger Asian guy at the front desk had what I think was a picture, video, or screensaver on his phone showing one of the rooms from the peephole’s point of view. I also see the big, older, heavyset Asian “property manager” at Dollar Tree. He’s very nice and always seems to be ahead of me in line, maybe buying birthday balloons for someone. The cashier keeps looking at the guys behind me and then back at me. They have to check every single $1.25 balloon SKU, and all the mysterious men behind me wait so patiently.

The cameras on every corner do add some sense of safety, but the silver deadbolts for double locking had been ripped off the door. The bathroom floor was filthy, with things stuck to it, and the kitchenettes could use maintenance. The rooms need paint too. I was worried about bed bugs. There’s a strict no-visitors rule and it costs $10-20 to add a guest. It’s cheap, but other places at the same or lower price are better. This should be around $40-60. I suppose it’s nice they offer help to homeless people, but otherwise the stay wasn’t worth it at all.

The owner solicited me for sexual favors for himself and his friends. He was also rude to the housekeepers and yelled at them. When a bathroom pipe broke, water flooded and I had to keep bailing it into buckets until he finally arrived hours later. The internet kept cutting out, and despite my paperwork, he charged $150 for my service dog. People also knocked on my door asking for cigarettes. He seems to have a particular talent for showing no respect to the community.

I paid for two weeks here, and the new management made an already hard situation much worse. I have severe anxiety, panic disorder, PTSD, and other medical problems, and I was treated like I didn’t matter. After I came downstairs for coffee and went outside to smoke, I spilled a tiny bit of coffee on the ground. The new manager, a big white guy with a bald head, started yelling and kicked me out. He wouldn’t let me into my room to collect my things, saying he would get them himself. I had a suitcase, baggage, and storage containers, all neatly packed. He emptied everything into plastic garbage bags and threw them outside. My new china for tea broke, and he mixed my makeup and garbage in with clean clothes. A lot of my things were ruined. When I asked where my laptop was, he said there was no laptop. I had just been using it upstairs, under my pillow. Later, after they let my brother into the room to get my belongings, it still made no sense that my HP Pavilion was missing. I was locked out while the manager was inside, and my laptop was stolen. I was never given the balance for the rest of my stay. I’m a single woman who has survived severe domestic violence and harassment, and this made everything worse. People treated me like s*** because my panic disorder and PTSD are less common. That doesn’t make me less human. Staff approached me three times. One said I was high, and another asked what I was doing when I was just standing outside. I have a sprained ankle and an internal disorder in my other leg. I can’t sit in the room all day, and I don’t want to walk on Aurora and get her out. Standing outside and doing nothing illegal seems to be a problem here. Meanwhile, people who don’t even stay there are allowed to meet and get drugs in the parking garage. I felt like I was the only sober one there. When the manager was screaming at me, he physically shoved me three times and scared me. There was white foam at the corner of his mouth. He seemed like the one on drugs. I called the police, and I’m going back to the precinct to follow up. I also need to have my foot checked. I stepped on glass in my room, and I wasn’t allowed to use the vacuum. It looked like glass from some kind of pipe or dope smoking, and I still have a piece in my foot. I asked to use the vacuum and was told I couldn’t. This seems like a place for people selling dope, or people who are more working pearl, or who are doing dope. If you’re just trying to make it, this isn’t a place to go. It doesn’t support the community when it puts victims of trauma and violence out on the street, where they’re at risk, and steals their laptops. This was my personal laptop. I don’t think they’re used to people owning something from the store. It was my first laptop in years, since the person who worked a nice we still all of my stuff, and I was so happy about it. I was getting services and finding services, and this has caused a huge hardship for me.
