Kimpton Palladian Hotel by IHG

The room was on the 7th floor, where the walls felt paper thin. I could feel every vibration from footsteps and doors closing. The shower stall didn't close all the way, so water kept spilling onto the floor. That seems unsafe, since you could slip without realizing the floor was wet. The location is the only good thing about this place. Pike Place Market, the waterfront, and a few popular restaurants are within walking distance. I'm an IHG Platinum Elite and Chase Sapphire Reserve member, and this hotel is part of the "Edit" assortment. At check-in I got a welcome letter signed by manager, Brian Evola, describing Chase Travel "Edit" perks. It clearly promised members a 4pm checkout if they didn't upgrade, and I hadn't upgraded because I wanted that checkout. Check-in itself was fine, but the next morning I went to confirm the time on my way to breakfast, and the front-desk woman politely refused to honor it. I was told it was cruise season, then world cup season, and that they were completely sold out, so I'd have to leave by 1230p. I showed their website listing King rooms as available, but they said the site wasn't accurate and they were booked anyway. What?? Why can't they keep the inventory accurate like other hotel websites? Then the explanation changed to HVAC not working on that floor. I said it had worked fine during the previous nights in my room. They kept saying the late checkout was "subject to availability" while I pointed out signs of availability. Finally they said Brian's welcome letter was old and hadn't been updated. WELL, that's not my problem. I paid for the room with Chase and am entitled to the benefits. Keeping things organized is their responsibility. I asked to speak to Brian and was told he wasn't available. After an uncomfortable back and forth, I had to push to get a 130p checkout. Brian Evola, treating premium clients this way is unacceptable. If you won't honor your obligations as a service provider, what's the point of being in hospitality?

The rooms are compact, clean, and well organized, and I liked that they had a variety of amenities to borrow. This is an older building, so you can hear the pipes and every little sound. It didn't affect my sleep, though it might bother you if you're a night owl like me. Staff were super nice, quick to greet me, and ready to answer questions. Lobby coffee and tea came in handy when I was heading out in the morning. The fitness room is clean and has enough equipment for a quick workout, with clean towels and water stations. There's also a restaurant next door for breakfast or a quick meal. I hope to check out the speak easy another time. The Kimpton Palladian is close to Pike Place market and the stadiums, handy for sports fans or exploring downtown Seattle.

We booked through the Chase edit program and had a great experience. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the food and drinks downstairs were excellent. The shower wasn't piping hot. It's an 80-year-old building, so rooms may be a little smaller than you're used to. We more than got our money's worth.

There was little to no hot water in the shower or bathtub, and the in-room coffee machine didn't work. On top of that, we were charged $500 over a "smoke detector" reading at 5am while we were sound asleep. We don't smoke. The charge was approved by the district manager during the weekend, even though the front desk staff said the manager doesn't work weekends. Not a good time. I'm trying to dispute the charge with my bank. Don't stay here.
