Hampton Inn Sedalia

The bathroom in the king room was really good. I’m short, and the walk-in shower worked great for me. There was lots of vanity space too, including pull-out shelves and an extra shelf.

It was easy to manage our luggage, with enough carts available, and the room was laid out well. The blackout blinds worked, and the shower had good pressure and a nice showerhead. I did wish there were another light in the corner across from the desk. The hotel was clean and quiet, though some staff weren't very friendly. The breakfast attendant and housekeeping were exceptions. The second-floor ice machine was broken, and we were told there wasn't one on the third floor. By checkout morning, the first-floor machine had run out, since it was the only one working. Breakfast was a letdown in a couple of ways. At most Hampton Inns we enjoy oatmeal, but this one had only instant. The eggs were watery and lukewarm. The scones were good, though.

The free breakfast was okay, though a bit behind what nearby hotels offer. The room had no alarm clock, and instead of drawers there were racks that looked like refrigerator shelves. We also didn't get enough towels.

The room was rough. It looked like nobody had touched it in at least a year, and the bed was hard as a rock. I bring my own bedding, thankfully. There wasn't even a TV guide. The hotel itself smelled horrible, and the higher floors were hot because they apparently only have AC in the rooms. Check-in wasn't welcoming either. The person seemed condescending and rushed me through without explaining breakfast or anything else. I was asked if I wanted water, so I asked whether there was a vending machine. They looked annoyed, pointed to the corner pantry, and said, “That's all we have,” like I should've known. I'm here for work and hadn't stayed before. I don't get the five-star ratings unless they're paid reviews or from people who don't travel much. For the same price I could stay at the Bothwell in a very fancy room and get a better breakfast.
