The spacious room was basically a one-bedroom apartment, with a small but fully functional kitchen, two flat-screen TVs, and a king bed. The balcony looked over the courtyard and grounds, though not the red rocks or surrounding nature. The furniture and bathroom felt tired and out of date. The TVs only had cable, so we couldn't stream anything and ended up watching shows with commercials like it was the 1990s. Our biggest problem was parking. The $34-a-day resort fee was explained at reception as covering parking and Wi-Fi, but spaces near our building were almost never free when we returned in the evening. We had to park in the main lot farther away, which was a hassle when bringing food and other things to the room. We hadn't realized there would be a resort fee on top of the average room price for the area. After we checked in following a long drive, a woman took us to a concierge desk, where a suited man tried to get us to attend a 90-minute timeshare presentation at a sister hotel 20 minutes away in exchange for a discount on a jeep tour. We felt pressured, and that wasn't how we wanted to spend our vacation. The location was good for reaching most attractions, but the hotel was disappointing and poor value.
After long days on Sedona's trails, it was great to come back to the resort. The large outdoor hot tub was especially relaxing, and it was fun sharing hiking stories with other guests. On our rainy first day, we explored the shops, galleries, and restaurants next door, which seem to be a destination in their own right. We also liked sitting by the big lobby fireplace after a soak. The wood smoke outside brought back memories of camping trips. We asked for a newly renovated second-floor suite and got exactly that. It was nearly perfect, with everything new and just a trace of new-construction smell. The TVs were a little old-fashioned, and we couldn't work out how to stream or cast from our phones, so we didn't use them. I don't think there's an elevator, so anyone with health issues and heavy luggage may want staff help carrying bags upstairs. We stayed five days as regular paying guests, not timeshare club members. They asked once if we'd like a timeshare presentation for freebies; we said no and weren't asked again. I'm not sure what the room service schedule was, because our room wasn't serviced during our stay, but the guest services desk quickly refilled our coffee and creamer packets when we asked. With the $35 nightly resort fee, it still seemed like good value for the location and amenities, and we'd likely book again.
I live in Phoenix and visit Sedona often. This property is consistently my first choice and keeps exceeding expectations. Jed at the front desk made check-in seamless and had everything set for a relaxing wellness weekend. I loved the suite with a private jacuzzi on the balcony. It was so relaxing, and there's plenty to do on the grounds. Tlaquepaque and my favorite coffee shop, Freeform, are both within walking distance. I'd definitely recommend the hotel for a cozy, beautiful, quiet stay in Sedona.
The property is beautiful and well maintained, and the spa and pool were especially good. We had a comfortable, clean room with lovely views, and the stay at Hilton Vacation Club Los Abrigados Resort & Spa in Sedona was relaxing and enjoyable. My only reason for giving four stars rather than five was that the front desk staff seemed a bit impatient during check-in.
The creek was peaceful, and I had fun looking around the Tlaquepaque Art shopping area just behind the property. I didn't have a rental car, so it was useful to know that Uber isn't always available in Sedona. The concierge suggested the Groome shuttle to and from Pheonix airport, and I'm glad they did. I liked how the apartment buildings were spread apart. The place was clean and well maintained, and my room was much larger than I expected. It was quiet, with no noise from neighboring rooms, and I appreciated having a kitchen. I was pleasantly surprised to find free laundry machines on site and detergent at the front desk.
