Courtyard by Marriott Southfield

The hotel is being renovated, but I still think the $300 security deposit is unreasonable. The manager got mad when I said so, cancelled my reservation, and told me to go elsewhere. She was rude and disrespectful, and I’ve never felt so embarrassed. Maybe she was having a bad day and took it out on me. I took my business to a more established place, and I’ll never return or recommend this hotel. I contacted corporate, but they said I had to speak with the hotel’s general manager.

It was very quiet, with not many people around. The rooms were fairly tidy and clean, with no strange smell, and the staff seemed friendly and helpful. The elevators could use an update: they creak in a concerning way, close hard, and are slow to open or reopen.

The staff were friendly, and the lobby looked clean. In our room, the sliding door to the outside was open when we first checked in. The floor under the sink was dirty, and there were stains and hair on the bathroom floor. We found ants around the door and sink, then more in the carpet by the fridge. The pool area was cold, and water dripped from the ceiling onto us. I assume it was condensation from the warm pool and cold room. The chair’s ottoman looked stained and dirty, though it may have been cleaned.

I’m a Marriott Bonvoy member and have stayed at the Southfield Courtyard several times, but tonight was a poor experience. The Bistro was closed when I arrived around 7 pm, and the two breakfasts I paid for during booking weren’t in the hotel’s system. Room numbers were written on paper and taped to the doors. My room had a bed, two standard chairs, a computer chair, and a wheeled storage unit partly under the desk. The patio door was completely out of place. When my guest arrived, they were surprised there was little besides the chairs and desk. There is a mini fridge hidden in wood-looking material, I guess that’s a plus. The room wasn’t comfortable, and I probably won’t return. The door wouldn’t close and lock unless I pushed until it clicked; the deadbolt didn’t work, and a lot of light came in from the hall because the door seemed unevenly hung. I couldn’t get a good photo of it. Wish I’d gone somewhere else. 😒
