We stayed in teepees at Geronimo Creek Retreat with friends and family. The location has potential, but the visit wasn't very comfortable overall. At night it was challenging not having a restroom attached to the teepees, especially with kids along. The first thing we noticed on entering was an odor, and there were bugs on the sofa. Outside, the seating area seemed poorly maintained, the benches had bird droppings, and the barbecue station could've been cleaner. We hope these things get improved for future guests.
For what we paid, especially for the treehouse, the place was rough and overpriced. It wasn't really a treehouse, more like a beach house, and nothing was being taken care of. The stairs to the so-called pier were rotted, the pier was covered in trash, and there was no clear water anywhere. The games were mostly broken or barely usable, including the cornhole set my daughter tried to play with. Inside, there were holes in the wall and couch, gross pots and pans, an empty knife block, and a bathroom door we had to work hard to close. The bed seemed well over ten years old and was worse than most hotel beds. The only reason for two stars is that the AC remote didn't work when we arrived, and the guy who came out was friendly. Honestly, I think most of these reviews must be from friends and family.
The place was okay, but for the money it didn't feel like good value. Cleanliness needs the most attention: the blankets smelled really bad and weren't in good condition, and the pool area was dirty and needed better upkeep. The game room was a mess, with every game broken or missing. There were also very few activities. It was just fine overall, but we didn't get our money's worth.
Geronimo Creek Retreat is in a beautiful, peaceful spot, and our spacious teepee room was comfortable. We had an enjoyable getaway. Some upkeep would make it even better, especially for the interior furniture, outdoor grill, a few games, and kayaking equipment.
The kids ended up loving it, getting muddy all day and making lots of friends. Once we understood what the place was really like, we enjoyed ourselves too. We came expecting something called glamping, but it isn't that if you want to stay clean. There's plenty of mud by the water and on the deck. We stayed in a tree house, which was okay and had a bathroom, shower, and kitchen, but nothing fancy. The grounds could use updating and care. Outdoor furniture was worn, hammocks had holes, the volleyball court had dog poop and flat balls, and the old game room's AC didn't work. The hot tub had brown water with a cigarette butt and bandages floating in it. I called support about the tub and volleyball court, and maintenance fixed them within an hour or two. The website pictures are dated and don't match what you see there. There should be more trash cans around the grounds, since people left cans, plastic, and other garbage around, though guests should also pick up after themselves.
