Stagecoach 66 Motel by Capital O

The room was nasty, even though booking and check-in service were fine. The door wouldn't shut all the way, and leaves and bugs were stuck in the old shag carpet. I wouldn't walk barefoot there. Under the sheets I found what looked like small animal droppings, maybe from a lizard or rodents, who knows. Exhaustion won, and I slept on the ancient, creaky mattress anyway. In the morning, dead bugs were crushed inside the towel I unfolded to dry my face. The shower was unusable too, with water blasting from a single solid pipe like a garden hose. At least the microwave got my gas station burrito lava-hot in under two minutes. I wish I'd asked for a refund and found somewhere else, but we were exhausted and it was getting close to the time motels shut their lobbies. The location also wasn't near Seligman's attractions. I'd chosen this place for an older motel with an authentic feel, and the Route 66 Motel didn't seem to offer double beds. Next time I'll try one of the refurbished places in town. It was kind of insane to pay the same amount as I did at Blue Swallow the following night, where I had an unforgettable stay in a beautiful classic room.

We found a clean, comfortable room after calling about an hour before they closed for the night. The receptionist was really friendly, too. It's a great place to stop, and if you cross the street away from the streetlights, you can get some lovely stargazing in.

We booked a themed room and were given the Cars room. It looked nice at first, but closer inspection was awful: old coffee was still in the pot, the sheets were stained, and the bathroom had mold. We checked out right away. When we complained, all we got was a simple "OK." I don't see how this motel has an average 4 star rating. I was fooled by it.

Our tour bus broke down, and we had to sort out a U-Haul to get the band's gear to Vegas. The owners were incredibly accommodating while we worked on repairs and getting the band and crew there. They even offered vacant rooms so some of the guys could shower. We had a few drinks at the cozy bar, along with some great burgers and fries, and the bartenders were very sweet. Thanks for looking after us. I hope I can come back in better circumstances.
