Red Roof Inn Columbia West, SC

The room smelled awful and was so nasty that we walked in and right back out. The second building was nothing like the first, and I feel they advertised falsely to get us to book. I also felt discriminated against and placed in the back building because of what I look like. I strongly do not recommend this motel, especially for people of my color. That back building should be torn down.

We didn’t feel safe or comfortable at all. We were too scared to use the tub, so we heated water in the coffee pot instead. The outlets had no covers, lights were hanging off the wall, and there was something all over the bathroom walls. We wouldn’t even get under the covers. Worst place I’ve ever stayed. Do not stay here, run away.

The room was clean and fairly small, and the AC worked well. The water pressure was great, though the shower’s hot and cold settings were switched and the bathroom fan barely worked. The main issue was the front door. It didn’t close properly, and you could clearly see light coming in, though the lock worked. The outside of the building was well lit at night. We stayed one night, and it was our cheapest option. It wasn’t so bad, but the place needs some repairs.

There were holes in the walls, burn marks all over the sheets and blankets, a broken outlet with its outer plate missing, a cracked bathroom mirror, and a fire alarm ripped off the wall. The light fixture was hanging loose, bathroom tiles were missing, there was mold on the ceiling, and something was spattered across the walls. There was even an old mattress in the parking lot. They clearly don’t care. I’ve stayed at about 70 hotels in the last six months, mostly Red Roof, and never felt compelled to leave a review before. This place is disgusting and insane. You’d be better off sleeping in your car at a Cracker Barrel. Avoid it like the plague you’ll likely catch if you stay here.
