Golf Club Villas

We booked a week, but left after three days and went somewhere else. Once we saw roaches crawling around the bedroom vanity by our toothbrushes and cups, that was enough. I called the desk and was told maintenance would come, but nobody ever did. The units are badly outdated and need a full renovation. Blankets covered the sofas and chairs to hide the worn upholstery, and the balconies look out onto other cabins and cars. There’s a wood-burning fireplace, but burning wood brings a $150 fine. The Wi-Fi was very weak and buffered a lot. There aren’t activities included with the unit, and you have to pay to use the fitness center or pool. If bugs, 1970s furnishings, and no amenities sound fine to you, this might be the place. Otherwise, don’t stay here.

We barely used the resort, though I know the lake and hiking trails are great, and Blanche will do her best if you need anything. The house itself isn’t fancy, but it’s comfortable and worked well as a base for exploring the area. After a decade of trading away, I came with some girlfriends for a much-needed vacation. We visited a couple of wineries each day, never driving more than an hour, and took beautiful country roads. Georgia wine is in a category of its own, and we always found something we liked. The maintenance guy, Dave? was great. He checked the washer, which worked but sounded like a jet taking off, fixed a few other little things, and then took time to go over maps and local plants and animals with us. We drove the Jeep trail, spotted bear claw marks on trees, watched for deer early in the morning, and found some great rocks.

The inside was clean, the views were pretty, and the beds were comfortable but small. The villa felt a bit dated, and the outside could have used a good pressure wash. We weren’t told that Exchange guests had to pick up the key off site, so we had to drive back into town before checking in. Check-in was at 4 PM and checkout at 10 AM.

This old unit is in an upscale community, but the appliances, carpet, bathrooms, and furniture are dated. There were cracks in the walls and the floor was uneven, which left me wondering if the unit was structurally sound. We called the number we were given to report the problems and were still waiting for a callback the next day. Save your money and stay somewhere else.
