We were pleasantly surprised by how much this retro hotel exceeded our expectations. The website description was accurate, and check-in was friendly and professional. We’re picky about cleanliness, comfort, and safety, so before bringing anything inside, we lifted the mattresses and checked carefully for signs of B.B. We found none. The room was very clean, with comfortable beds, adjustable AC, hot water, and quiet surroundings. It felt safe, and the retro-style lighting was bright. Restaurants were an easy walk away, from Mc Donalds to highly rated places, with enough choices for picky kids. It’s a great Route 66 stop, and we’d absolutely stay again. If stairs are an issue, ask for a ground-floor room. We did, and were glad to pay a few dollars more.

This old-style motel brought back memories of road trips with my parents in the 1980s. There’s a small lobby, exterior corridors, and no breakfast. The room was clean, but soundproofing is limited: I could hear the person next door snoring, and the AC was loud. If you’re leaving early, the only breakfast choice is Burrito Hut, two blocks away.

The staff were extremely cordial and went well out of their way to make our honeymoon stay special. We had a room with a postcard-worthy view, enough said. Western Motel in Shamrock, Texas is a long-established motor lodge in a great spot, directly across the street from the U Drop Inn café and Conoco Tower Station, which inspired the movie Cars. It’s a 1960s-style motor court, somewhat dated but clean and true to that decade. Very clean and family-friendly, a perfect stop on Route 66.

The room was comfortable, clean, and relaxing, and the staff were warm and friendly. We especially loved the nighttime view of the iconic U-Drop Inn tower from our room. Western Motel is a great spot, with restaurants and Main Street a short walk away. We appreciated that they welcome pets, and will definitely return when we visit Shamrock again.

I was worn out from traveling, and this place was a godsend. The room was quaint, clean, quiet, and everything worked. The WiFi was great, though I’ve never liked Dish TV because it never works. The shower had hot water, the bathroom was a nice size, and the crisp bed linens and clean smell made the room feel fresh. The staff were so kind and helpful.
