Pine Hill Arms Hotel

Pine Hill itself is lovely, and the location is the main plus. But at $158, or $176 with tax, this felt like a two-star stay; maybe at $100 or less it would seem reasonable. We had a Queen room with a tiny bathroom that was falling apart and badly done. The shared spaces weren’t clean, and the coffee and bagel area was dark and windowless. There were cables in the hallways that didn’t look up to code, and our room had no AC. We didn’t see any staff, and the bar and restaurant were closed, which the website hadn’t mentioned. It’s a great property, but it’s been allowed to deteriorate and needs someone who really cares for it.

We come back almost every ski-season weekend because our kid is on the Belleayre ski team, and having an affordable, clean place so close to the mountain is such a gift. The rooms, lobby, and linens are all super clean, the beds are comfortable, and it’s nice to sit by the lobby fire after skiing. Pine Hill is a very cute town, too. The hotel is older, as another review mentioned, but that hasn’t bothered us. Peter, and Jane before him, have both been kind and gone out of their way to make things run smoothly. The restaurant is closed right now, which is a real bummer because the food was really, really good. Hopefully they find a new operator.

The room was so cramped that my husband had to turn sideways to get through the bathroom door, and he couldn’t use the toilet if he were even slightly overweight. We live in NYC and are used to small spaces, but this was something else. No toiletries were left in our room, though I spotted some in another room, so ours may have been missed during restocking. We stayed in February and had no heat or hot water. We went to bed in winter clothes, and I woke up sick. The mattress was terrible and stained. The whole place felt uncomfortable and sketchy. The bar and restaurant were closed for the season, so I can’t comment on them. Probably the worst hotel experience of my life.

We planned to spend two nights here for a Belleayere Mountain ski weekend, but after one night we paid extra to stay somewhere else. The room was below average, with a thin, dingy carpet, an odor, no hot water, and a bed that felt like an air mattress. Being a five-minute drive from the ski mountain was the one good thing. For just a little more, there are plenty of nicer bed and breakfasts nearby.
