Hyatt Place Cincinnati / Sharonville Convention Center

The friendly, helpful staff really made this hotel stand out. We met nice people who seemed to enjoy their jobs, from the front desk and breakfast area to the cleaning team. Thanks to Charity at the front desk for following through on our checkout, and to Bert, the General Manager. Hyatt Place Sharonville is good value when there's no convention at the facility next door. The hotel is a bit dated but clean and well maintained. The rooms are darker than most modern hotel rooms, the nightstand between the beds is right at elbow-banging height, and the mattresses are very soft, which may or may not suit you. Breakfast is about average for a hotel in this class: eggs, bacon or sausage, and potatoes daily. The orange juice was great, which is unusual for a hotel continental breakfast. The cereal, yogurt, and fresh fruit salad were good, but the bread wasn't very fresh.

We got the wrong room at check-in, and the bathroom sink barely drained. The couch cushions were torn up and looked like they'd come from a dumpster. There were dirty pizza boxes scattered around the pool, ladybugs all over the bed, and the breakfast was nasty. The waffles were frozen, and the juice looked watery and unappetizing. No microwave in the room, either. A 7 11 would have a better breakfast. Rooms at a low-rent flea motel would at least have a microwave. Parking was a pain because the convention center next door makes it hard to find a spot nearby. If you're not mobile, good luck with the long walk. After staying at this Hyatt, you'll be glad to get out of there.

The rooms and lobby areas were really nice. My room had a large modern bathroom, comfy beds, and a small fridge, and the female employee was very kind. The workout room was big and had lots of equipment. The pool was cold, and so was the room it was in, the opposite of most pool rooms. There was no hot tub. Breakfast was mediocre: the sausage was dried out, the eggs barely warm, and the tray of waffles was reheated Eggos. They don't have a make-your-own waffle machine.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the building looks good from the outside. But the stay felt disappointing for the price and the Hyatt name. The pool was a big reason we booked, especially with kids, but the water was so cold I couldn't get past my knees. In the room, the TV powered on to a blue screen, then the picture kept fuzzing out about every minute. The same issue showed up on the TV in the breakfast lounge. With no bad weather and good conditions for satellite TV, it seemed like the setup was wrong and fixable. It also seemed like a basic problem maintenance could have caught, since housekeeping uses the TV while cleaning. The refrigerator cabinet door was crooked and barely attached, and we had to lift it to shut it. Breakfast was called hot, but the waffles were bulk frozen ones reheated in a toaster and put in a bowl, the eggs were hastily scrambled, and most things came from packets or boxes. Even the disposable plates were really cheap. On our return trip, another, non-Hyatt hotel had fresh-cooked eggs, make-your-own waffles, and fresh fruit, a night-and-day difference. The breakfast trash was overflowing during peak hours, even though the volume was predictable. If I'd known, I'd have picked a less premium brand and saved the money. Someone without much experience at Hyatt might consider these things normal, but this fell short of other Hyatt stays and even cheaper hotels.
