Four Winds Motel

I’m 24 hours into a three day stay, and I can already say Four Winds in Depoe Bay is a gem on the Oregon coast. Loading and unloading is easy with the parking, and right across 101 the waves crash along the rocks and shore on Oregon’s beautiful Pacific coast. The room is clean, with a large comfortable bed, nice pillows, heat, clean carpet, plenty of space, and a table that works as a desk. There’s also a microwave, coffee, a fridge with a separate freezer, and the price was so unbelievable that I had to double check what I paid online. For comparison, places like motel6 cost more and now offer no amenities, not even shampoo, for a stay in a room with orange decor that feels more like a lobby. I couldn’t be happier with a room for what I needed. Two thumbs up, and I definitely recommend it.

👎 This place was really dirty and shouldn’t have a star. There was blood on the bathroom floor, and hair all over the shower, sink, and bed. The pillows and cases were stained, as were the washcloths and towels. The room smelled awful, and the office smelled really bad too. The guy at the desk, who I assume was the owner or manager, was unprofessional. The housekeeper also keeps whatever she wants. Just a terrible, dirty place. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone! 👎

The low price and beach location initially impressed us, but the next morning I found out why the bed felt so lumpy. When I pulled back the bottom sheet, there were two bunched up mattress pads, both horribly stained, hiding a mattress with even worse stains. I couldn’t tell whether they were blood, feces, urine, or all three. It was disgusting. I sent photos to Lincoln County, though I doubt anyone checked it out. I tried to get our money back through Expedia, but they said I had to contact the motel directly. There’s no mailing address or PO box, so I couldn’t do that. I absolutely don’t recommend this place, especially Room #2. It’s probably just as disgusting as when we stayed.

The room was small but okay, and the guy in the office was decent. If it were clean, it could be fine. But it smelled so strongly of chemicals that opening the window to air it out didn’t help, and there was no screen. The smell set off my migraine. It’s cheaper, sure, and you get what you pay for, but clean and fresh smelling should be a given. I don’t recommend staying here.
