Shasta Dam Motel

I left this place about 10 minutes ago, on 8/20/2025, and I wouldn't recommend it. The lobby floor was covered in pine needles, leaves, and dirt, like someone had blown the parking lot debris inside. I didn't see the rest of the property, but the filthy office and the owner's crummy attitude, along with some recent reviews, make me think it needs to be shut down and inspected for disabled access. This place deserves zero stars. Google should remove the old 4- and 5-star ratings, since many were posted years ago before the current owner took over. I’m 59 and recently had knee replacement surgery. I sometimes use a walker to ease the pressure so I don’t get too sore. When the man came out after I rang the office bell, he looked at my walker and said in a heavy Indian accent, “I do not have handicapped rooms. I cannot help you.” I said I’d only had knee surgery and used the walker occasionally, and then he agreed to rent me a room. I’d called earlier and was told pets were allowed with a $20 deposit. I asked whether that was $20 total or per pet. He asked how many I had, and when I said three, he said he couldn’t help me. I clarified that it would be $60, and said I was happy to pay it and get the money back the next day after he checked that the room was clean. He still refused. So I guess it wasn’t a deposit, it was a shakedown. Seriously, who tells someone using a walker, or a wheelchair, “I don't have disabled rooms, I cannot help you”?

The owner had the AC running before we got there, so the room was already cool. We relaxed outside and a really friendly cat came over. It was just right for a hot shower and a good night's sleep.

Such a comfy little place to stop while we were passing through town on the way back up to Oregon. The price was just right, too.

The room was clean and a nice size, and they let us bring our dogs. I’d stay there again.
