Hampton Inn Shelbyville

The location is great, the staff are friendly, breakfast was fine, and the bed slept well. But this didn’t feel like the usual Hampton Inn quality. In room 317, the bathroom outlets didn’t work, and several others in the room were dead too. Finding one that worked for the hairdryer was a chore, though some by the bed did work. The tub’s inside paint was peeling, like an attempt to repaint an older tub that failed, maybe from bad prep or paint. The roller shade only came up about two feet from the bottom of the window. The room was very dark even with every light on; the paint color is too dark, and it looks like they tried to improve it but fell short. The first-floor ice machine was out of order. They also didn’t recognize us as Hilton Honors members, so I had to ask for the bottled water.

Megan and Lorraine deserve a special mention. I’m usually grumpy, crotchety, and pernicious, and I looked carefully for something to criticize, but couldn’t find a thing. My wife did point out that a makeup washcloth would’ve been a useful extra, since she got your white one dirty.

Check-in took quite a while because nobody was at the front desk for an extended stretch. The rooms were clean, but the shower was absolutely horrible, with low pressure. Blue collar workers were coming and going constantly, which is fine, but they were extremely loud and made it hard to sleep through the night. Nothing too egregious, but I wouldn’t stay here again if you want a good shower.

The room was clean and tidy, and breakfast the next morning was yummy with lots to choose from. We got a good amount of freebies as Hilton members, and the woman at the front desk was very nice and welcoming. The hotel is in a serene, good area just off the highway. We had a very nice stay and would definitely stay again!
