Our stay started with a rude check-in. We asked about bringing our ESA dogs and were told to bring their IDs, so we did. The desk guy barely spoke when greeting us, then snapped at my wife for her last name after she kindly explained that her first name had a Y in it. Once he finished checking us in, he came around the desk with his hands up as if our kind, gentle dogs might attack. He said they weren’t allowed because they weren’t service animals, but would let them stay since they were calm. I appreciated the exception, but why tell us after taking our money and checking us in? They put us across from the noisy laundry room. The room was very small, and the bathroom was so tiny two people couldn’t stand in it. Most TV channels were in a language we didn’t understand, and the TV wouldn’t let us connect to our game system, so we watched a movie on our phones. Breakfast wasn’t all there either, just a small amount of eggs and sausage links. The hotel only allows service dogs, not approved ESAs. They did allow ours this once, but the customer service was bad. What a ridiculous place. Make sure you don’t check in here.
We needed a room for a funeral, not a getaway, and the kids were a bit disappointed there wasn’t a pool. The rooms were clean and decent, with no bugs or bad smells. It’s not Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, or Hilton, and you get what you pay for. Some reviewers seem to expect luxury at value prices. Breakfast was the drawback: the orange juice was definitely off and the bagels were like rocks. The food needs attention, but we managed.
The worst part for us was how the staff treated us over our two ESA dogs. My fiancée and I didn’t realize ESA and service animals were treated differently under the hotel’s policy. As soon as we arrived, a man we assumed was the manager or desk clerk stopped us and said the dogs couldn’t come in because they weren’t service animals and ESAs weren’t permitted. That was our mistake, and we stayed cooperative without an argument. Still, he gave us no greeting or apology, seemed judgmental, spoke down to us, and acted sarcastic when I asked if he needed any more information. After a long inhale, he said he’d make an exception this once. Other staff gave us dirty looks as we walked to the room with our well-trained dogs. It felt awkward and humiliating, like everyone was staring at us. We were embarrassed in front of guests and staff before we were even checked in. The room was too warm, and the AC didn’t work at all. I overheat easily and needed it cooler. We called for help, but nobody fixed it or offered us another room. The TV was set to Spanish audio and the menu was in Spanish too. We couldn’t figure out how to change it, and another call for help went nowhere. We couldn’t get a refund, so we waited until early morning to check out, and our Valentine’s Day was spoiled. I understand the job can be stressful, and maybe this guy deals with the same issue all the time. But the condescending attitude was out of place. I’ve stayed at other Comfort Inns where staff greeted us professionally and treated us with genuine kindness. This employee was a jerk, and other staff couldn’t be bothered to make our stay more comfortable. We won’t return, with or without service animals. The experience was hurtful, embarrassing, and appalling. This is about this location and the discomfort we were shown by that employee and some of the staff, not Comfort Inn as a whole.
For the eight days I stayed, the orange juice was bad and people complained without anything being done. The beds were hard, water pressure was horrible, and the TVs weren’t smart and had a poor channel selection. It wasn’t worth $180. Save your money and go to Drury, 15 minutes down the road.
The rooms are bigger than average and comfortable. It’s easy to reach from a cross street off the major road, without the traffic or noise.
