Best Western Westgate Inn

The rooms were basic, but the staff made a difficult family trip much easier. We were in town for a funeral, and Nina and J, along with everyone else, were understanding as our plans shifted to fit relatives with mobility limits and particular room needs. I wish I’d learned everyone’s names. They helped us so much.

The room looked clean, but it smelled strongly of cigarettes when I arrived. The receptionist said it hadn’t been rented in weeks, which seemed odd given the smell. Running the air didn’t clear it. There was also someone else’s hair in the shower, and housekeeping came in despite the Do Not Disturb sign. The metal bed made a loud noise whenever I moved. The location itself was nice.

The jacuzzi suite was spacious and really nice, and the bed was comfortable. The sheets had a harsh, odd smell from whatever they were washed with. Around 9am a staff member knocked despite our Do Not Disturb sign. I couldn’t understand what he was asking, said no thank you because I assumed it was about housekeeping, and he kept talking. It was irritating, and I still don’t know what he wanted. I’d stay again, though.

The disrespect at the front desk was the last straw. My husband and I had both accidentally left our room keys inside, and he’d asked for another about ten minutes before I did. By the time I went downstairs, he’d fallen asleep upstairs while my organization and I were watching TV in the lobby. Jay, the grumpy older man at the desk, yelled at me in front of several people, including the young man finishing his shift, just for asking for a key. I’d already put up with rooms that weren’t very clean, noisy tin bed frames, a broken microwave, and beds that weren’t cleaned while we were out all day. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels for business, and this was my first and last time at a Best Western. He shouldn’t work in hospitality.
