Candlewood Suites Glen Allen-Short Pump by IHG

There’s a persistent marijuana smell in the hotel, which wasn’t pleasant for those of us who don’t smoke. I’m not sure what can be done about it. The Candlewood is in an upscale area, with all the amenities you need close by, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room, though, was dated and needed a refresh. It was clean and did the job, but the shower stall, counters, and flooring were well over a decade old and didn’t match the lively surrounding area.

I stay here three times a year for work because the value, location, and feeling of safety are good, but especially because the customer service is excellent. Karen at the front desk is so warm and caring, and it’s welcoming to be greeted by her. Once, my room didn’t have a hairdryer and she couldn’t find one, so she lent me her own. More recently, I called to change my reservation and she recognized me as soon as I gave my name. When I checked in, she’d arranged a room on my preferred floor because occupancy was filling up and she wanted me to be comfortable. Thank you, Karen! 😃

We had an easy stay, from the first phone call through check-in. My spouse, six-year-old son, and I came for a quick getaway, and Aerie at the front office was welcoming, friendly, and informative. The room was tidy, and having a private room and living room gave us enough separation of space. I’ll keep this location in mind for future stays.

The room was nice and the woman at the front desk was very sweet, but we left in a hurry after finding bedbugs in the room. We took all our belongings straight to a laundromat and ran them in the dryer on high for hours. I hope they keep anyone out of room 316 until an exterminator has gotten rid of the bedbugs.
